"After Tiller is a deeply humanizing and probing portrait of the only four doctors in the United States still openly performing third-trimester abortions in the wake of the 2009 assassination of Dr. George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas — and in the face of intense protest from abortion opponents."

The West Wing DVDs are on sale at Amazon today. If you still have a DVD player, and you don't have Netflix, buy this. (But if you don't have Netflix, maybe you should rethink your priorities in life.)

Solar Freakin' Roadways!

I donated $60. I don't even need the roads to be solar. Just give me a solar driveway, so I don't have to shovel snow.

I'm using Snow Leopard on both computers (both purchased in 2010), and I abhor the Mac app store. Is there any reason I should upgrade to Mavericks?

My hard drive died. Here's the story.

Friday I woke up to a gray screen with a question mark on my 2.5 yr old iMac. After several simple troubleshooting restarts, I took it to the Apple store, where they replaced the hard drive in just two days. (Yay!) It cost $265 plus tax. (Meh.)

I had a Time Machine backup (as well as a Carbonite backup), which I used to recreate everything I had lost. That took a couple of hours and almost everything was exactly as it was Thursday. "Almost" because:
- Time Machine did not backup my media files (i.e. movies I had ripped from DVDs, etc.), so the ones I did not have manually backed up or still on DVD are lost. I may have set that on purpose, because my external hard drive got full and time machine stopped working at some point.
- I had to re-enter serial numbers/access codes for applications that require them, like Office. (Would using the Mac app store have solved this?)
- Chrome is having difficulty on just one profile. (I use one profile for work, another for play.) It opens with the message that my Chrome profile could not be opened correctly, and I couldn't find a help/troubleshooting file to solve this.
