Whenever I am ready to give up on the human race I just rewatch the Numa Numa part of the "Anthropological Introduction to YouTube" video and then everything is okay again.

Ugh router issues are so frustrating. For the past six months my wifi hotspot would stop working several times a day -- sometimes multiple times per hour! -- and often requiring a total phone power cycle (vs. just turning the wifi hotspot off and back on again) to restore connectivity. But the latest Android software update seems to have fixed that, thus making it possible for me to download files and stream video again.

This would have been perfect if it had also included a scene of Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers spliced into the same frame. :D

Introduction
I'm originally from the Pacific Northwest, but for the past few years I've been living in Las Vegas with my husband, a professional poker player named Neal "Ace" Mason, and our two crazy wiener dogs, Buster and Junior. All that changed on October 31 when my father-in-law died of a sudden heart attack. My husband and I packed up our dogs and moved to his hometown of Lynchburg, Virginia to take over running the family business until his mother decides what to do with it. So this blog now chronicles my adventures learning how to help manage a tire shop and adapt to life in a small town full of people who believe that I'm going to hell (bless my heart). Whee!

Bragging rights
On the leading edge of Generation Y, I grew up as one of the first "digital natives." I've been socializing via the internet for 20+ years (fellow former netizens of rec.arts.startrek, represent!). I've participated in almost every aspect of "social media" since before the term was even coined: Usenet, IRC, MUDs, BBSes, AOL, LISTSERVs, hand-crafted HTML personal homepages, blogging, LiveJournal, MySpace, Craigslist, assorted phpBB forums, Amazon customer reviews, Flickr, del.icio.us, Facebook, YouTube, MMORPGs, LinkedIn, Twitter, FourSquare, MetaFilter, Reddit, and more instant message clients and chat rooms than I can recall. Now I'm on Google+, and I'm very excited to be here. :)

I just had my first electrolysis treatment with Dolores Ayers in west Lynchburg. Her office is in the business district part of the Wyndhurst neighborhood in west Lynchburg. There was ample street parking and I found a spot less than a block away. I'm not familiar with Lynchburg public transit but I think there is bus service to Wyndhurst? It seems like a nice, safe, walkable neighborhood, with restaurants, salons, shops, etc., so if you had to kill some time before or after an appointment there's plenty to do. She's in a "micro offices" building. I think most of the other offices in the building are currently empty -- right now it seems the only people sharing her hallway are the property developer with an optician coming soon. There is no common waiting room or receptionist; instead, she's rented a second office adjacent to her treatment room to serve as a private waiting area for her clients. Dolores is a very friendly, chatty, sweet older lady. Her office was very clean and she seemed diligent about hygiene, making sure that I saw that she was washing her hands and sterilizing everything before she began. (I'd have assumed that she was doing that regardless, but it's reassuring that she makes a deliberate point about it.) She used a numbing topical analgesic but the needle still hurt a little bit as she removed each hair. I'd say the pain was comparable to yanking a hair out of my upper lip using tweezers. After she finished, she pressed a cold wet towel to my face to reduce the redness. There was no lingering pain after the session. I'd booked a half-hour appointment ($32) but she didn't need that long to remove the amount of hair I had so she only charged me for 20 minutes ($28). I estimate that she removed about 50-100 hairs (I'd counted over 50 when I made the appointment a couple days ago) during those 20 minutes. My hairs were scattered over my upper lip and chin; I imagine the hairs-per-hour rate is probably higher for denser beard growth. As you can see in the price difference between 20 minutes ($28) and 30 minutes ($32) -- 50% more time for only $4 more -- booking longer sessions will give you the most value. Something to keep in mind if you've got a full beard to remove. I didn't get a chance to look in a mirror until 2 hours after my appointment. By then, there was no redness. The skin in the treated area is a little flaky but otherwise doesn't seem irritated. It's definitely significantly less irritated than it would get when I used chemical hair removers like Nair. So, based on my experience thus far, I highly recommend Dolores Ayers as well as electrolysis in general. It turned out to be easier, less expensive, and less painful than I'd assumed. I only wish I'd started much sooner -- while I'm cisgender, I started sprouting ugly hairs in unfortunate locations in my mid-20s and have spent the past decade combating them with tweezers and chemical exfoliants. Both were very damaging to my skin and I have scarring from ingrown hairs. :( So I'm really looking forward to all those nasty little hairs being gone forever. :)

I lived there for 2.5 years and was told when I got my dogs that I had to pay a 300 dollar pet DEPOSIT. Also I had to get two extra gate keys that were 50 dollar DEPOSITS each. After moving out they charged me to replace the carpets (which were old when I moved in) because of my dogs. Now that is fine with me and I understand. However, they changed their tune and called the DEPOSITS fees. Now I returned all of their gate keys and was short 400 dollars. Stay away, the new management is horrible and will look to scam you any way they can.

I used to be very afraid of dentists because of a bad experience I had as a teenager. Dr. Hilton was very understanding about my fear and soothing and gentle while filling my cavities.

I highly recommend this broker for either individual or group insurance needs (I have bought both individual insurance for myself and then later group insurance for my employer from them). Larry Harrison, the owner, is a health insurance guru. He happily provides expert advice on how to best select and use insurance for maximum economic, tax, and legal benefits. His sales staff, Ann and Mike, are also extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The level of service provided here is also amazing. 80% of the time when I call, one of the agents is immediately available to answer my question. If I call when they're out on an appointment, they get back to me within one business day. Most emails are answered the same day as well. I never have to worry about following up with them -- they ALWAYS get back to me on EVERYTHING, even just to let me know that they're waiting to hear back from the insurer so I know they haven't forgotten me.
