Indian private sector conglomerate #Reliance group’s #Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd and Russia’s JSC Ship Repairing Centre Zvyozdochka have agreed to form a joint venture to refit and certify #submarines of the 877EKM category at an estimated cost of Rs 11,000 crore (US$ 1.73 billion), as part of Government’s efforts to indigenise defence equipment manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.

To enable implementation of Government proposal to transfer fertilizer subsidy directly to #farmers’ accounts, the Department of Fertilizers has planned a pilot project in select districts to capture details of beneficiary farmers at local fertilizer stores and thereby build a comprehensive database of beneficiary farmers over time.

The Union Cabinet has approved a 3 per cent interest subvention to banks for providing crop loans up to Rs 300,000 (US$ 4,700) to farmers at 7 per cent interest rate, with the facility for additional subvention of 3 per cent to those farmers who repay loans on time.

Investments in #solar capacity addition in India are expected to exceed investments in coal based power capacity by 2019-20, as per a Deutsche Bank report, which states that US$ 35 billion of commitments have already been made by global companies such as #SunEdison, #SoftBank, #Foxconn, Trina Solar and others. The Government of India is targeting a five-fold increase in solar power capacity to 100,000 MW by 2022 from 20,000 MW.

Government of India’s ‘Jan Dhan’ initiative for financial inclusion is gaining momentum, as the number of bank accounts opened by July 15, 2015 has more than doubled to 169 million from 68.7 million at end of October 2015, while account balance has quadrupled to Rs 20,288 crore (US$ 3.2 billion) from Rs 5,180 (US$ 810 million) during the same period.
