We have been quiet on the posting front for the past few months becasue we have been in the final stages of repairing, testing, bug fixing and we are now very close to having a fully restored Lathe. In fact we would say; Close to being factory condition, with some improvemnts. Here are latest photos.

Sean and Duncan making the very first test cut. There has been more since and we are very happy withn the results.

Hope to post a video soon of the first real audio cut.

Started work on the Rack, after changing over 200 capacitors and 100 transistors we are at a point where we can start elecrical tests.

First problem was the turntable table motor was taking out the RCD! oops. So had to strip it to find what was going on, made some interesting pictures. The motor is now being rewound.

So that’s what looked like in May.

The following photos show it as it is in November. As you will see it is not complete there is still plenty to do. The aim is to have power running through it by December. That will undoubtedly bring its own problems and of course there is then alignment and calibration.

To be continued.....................

Since May this year, in conjunction with our friends at Funky Junk UK,

We been steadlly working on restoring a Neumann VMS-70 lathe complete with cutting rack. It came from a well known studio based on the west coast Africa. It has sat ,ooking lonley and forlorn for the past 30 years or so. The heat and humidty had taken it's toll on the steel fixtures adn fitting, switches and motors.

But with time, patience and skill ( not just ours ) it is starting to look like it would have 30 years ago. We can@t sya it will ever be in new condition as alot of the parts are not available as orginals or equivalents so have to make good the original part and where we can we have replaced with original parts and remade from scratch where possible.

The first set of photos show the lathe and bed as it was when it reached us. At forst glance it looks noit to bad but then as you look closer and as we started to take bits apart a differnet story started to unroll.
