A communitywide celebration is planned for Saturday – before the Orange face Clemson – as part of the unveiling of statues representing Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Floyd Little and Ben Schwartzwalder. The event will also officially dedicate the new Ensley Athletic Center.

“My favorite part about covering politics as a beat is that it is not an inherently visual beat,” says New York Times videographer and Newhouse School alumnus AJ Chavar ’10.

AJ talked with students during the annual Fall Workshop about his experiences since he graduated in 2010, including shooting an interview of President Obama in the White House.

“Iceland is a natural laboratory that allows us to study volcanoes and faulting across a range of disciplines,” says Syracuse University geologist Jeffrey Karson, who is researching the recent Icelandic volcano eruption and regularly travels to Iceland to study faulting and volcanic structures.

S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications Professor Ken Harper is leading a team of students and journalists to develop the first website tracking Ebola in West Africa.

The automatically updating, data-driven website aims to help the Liberian government keep track of cases with information such as numbers of cases and a heat map of the area with numbers by region.

The IMPRESS program at the Whitman School is using Harry Potter inspired gamification to train tomorrow’s business leaders. Students in four “houses” are competing for points towards the Goodman Cup – points are earned by gaining leadership skills, attending lectures and participating in career-building programs beyond the classroom. http://ow.ly/BvG9G
