Contrast, composition and light, a pleasure to watch!

"Fitzgerald Marine Reserve 2" - http://www.grantmurrayphotography.com

View LARGE here: http://tinyurl.com/kazp4f4

I was in San Fran early in January for the +A Slice of Time - SF Bay Photowalk 2013. This image was created on the Monday after the Photowalk. I met up with +Nathan Wirth  , +Athena Carey  , +Alan Allum  and +John Kosmopoulos  for breakfast and spent a wonderful day shooting around Pacifica and beyond with such amazing company.

The weather conditions for the entire trip were really special and the Monday was certainly no exception. The crowds had all departed after the crazy busy Photowalk weekend, so I had my favorite people all to myself.

Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is a very special place and is dear to my heart, as it is the first place Nathan took me on my first trip to the Bay Area. The rock shelves are gorgeous there and when the tide level is just right, the real magic happens. I'm pretty sure that the sun was playing peek-a-boo with the beacon :-)

I used a 10 stop and 3 stop ND filter and 3 stop hard grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast in the sky, water and around the rock shelves.

The techie stuff:

Sony A850 D-SLR
Zeiss 16-35mm Lens
ISO: 100
Aperture: f/13
Exposure: 75 seconds
Focal Length: 16mm
Filters: Lee Big Stopper ND filter, Lee 3 stop ND filter and Lee 3 stop hard grad ND filter
Software: Photoshop CS6 and Google Silver Efex Pro 2

Surreal and fine art at its best!!
by +Stephen Cairns
two posts

It's not really the sea but I hope it qualifies for the theme. This is Lake Biwa, near Imazu, Shiga prefecture, Japan.

Sitting in a car park assessing the scene with an orange in one hand and the peel in the other when the light suddenly changes. This is not a revisit location. My chance is now. I run to the car, jamming the orange in my mouth, the peel in my pocket while wiping my hands on my jeans.

Sometimes things just come together.

Always love it when complete stillness sets in at sunset! It's what I'm hoping for. +Henrik Sandin and I had a great 4 hours along the archipelago in this part of western Sweden.

A fine art beauty by +Johan Peijnenburg Amazing light!
Colorful Tranquility
From my blog: http://www.niophoto.com/colorful-tranquility/

Haven’t posted in a while. My apologies for that! I’ve been crazy busy with travelling and all sorts of other (good) things. I am back at it though, and hope to be posting a bit more regularly again in the coming months!

This image is the last one in a series of images that I captured during a long exposure sunset shoot at Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) near the Swiss town of Morges. I shot this with my Nikon D800E and made a conscious choice to turn of long exposure noise reduction on my camera. The good part of a sunset doesn’t last that long, so turning it off allowed me to get away with more images. Never again though! The D800E adds thousands of tiny white spots to each image when that setting is turned off. I was aware of that and it can be taken care off in a post … but wow … what a time-consuming and annoying task it is. So … more images from that night will follow … but very sloooowly ;-)

I used a 10-stop Lee ND filter to get at an exposure time of 2 minutes. I processed the image with Adobe’s Lightroom 5 (a touch slower again ain’t it). The white spots were removed using spot healing in Adobe Photoshop CS6. This was actually the first time I used Photoshop on a published image!

*Hope you like how it came out!*

A rock to make you dream...
Beautiful work from +rohan reilly

I had heard of a private beach not too far from where I live, where you had to climb down by a rope. I headed off in the direction and asked the nearest house for directions, the lady kindly let me through her garden and down some steps they had made for themselves. I was delighted with myself as I am getting a bit old to be climbing up and down cliffs with a rope to a beach, especially one I had never been to before. This lovely rock was there.

As always feel free to share and thanks for all the comments and likes, it really is very much appreciated.

Theres some banding unless seen on fullscreen so to see properly  if you have a moment take  a look here
