Want to learn something interesting while in Chicago? Want to see something you don't see everyday? The field museum is the place for you. Th building itself is a huge gorgeous limestone building that houses tons of exhibits. The museum specializes in natural and human history, there is something for everyone here. Worth a visit if you're in Chicago, the crowds here usually aren't bad even on weekends

I found the field museum to be one of the best activities in Chicago. The museum itself is massive offering exhibits from all around the world. Exhibits are abound in variety for both the animal world and human alike. I strongly recommend you get city pass if you plan on going to the other museums as the GA line for all of these buildings is very long and it will take your entire day to see and do everything. My only small complaint would be the cafeteria, which was not well organized or setup to handle the large crowd of the day.

Sue is awesome. They have some great permanent exhibits. Check out the 3D theater and the Sue film. Only 20 minutes. The bottom level has a great play space for little kids.

This museum is enormous! If you plan to visit, make sure to allocate at least one full day to walk this giant. A beautiful and robust museum located right next to Soldiers Field (for those not from Chicago, that is the spaceship inside of what appears to be a roman coliseum). Currently the museum is hosting two notable exhibits. The first, China's first emperor and his terracotta warriors, which includes treasures and figures uncovered. The second, Cyrus Tang hall of China, which gives a very detailed walk through of hundreds of years of Chinese history. In addition to the special exhibits, the museum has numerous other exhibits, including Inside Ancient Egypt, Ancient America's, DNA Discovery Center and many others. If you get tiered from walking, you can also visit one of the 3D Theaters. An absolute must visit!

The wait to get in was over an hour. They need a more efficient entrance process. We lost over an hour of time we could have spent enjoying the museum. The staff inside were great though. I was also quite frustrated they only let us out the back doors of the museum and since we came in from the front we got very lost and it ruined our evening plans. I was also frustrated because we got the all access pass, but weren't told you could only visit each exhibit once, so after waiting in line yet again for the underground exhibit, we went to wait in line for the 3D movie and thought we could come back to the underground exhibit, rather than rush through it in 10 mins then not be allowed back, however the exhibit closed an hour before the rest of the museum, so we wound up missing it entirely. A few other exhibits closed earlier also, that I felt we missed out on because of having to wait so long to get in. I personally feel the museum should be open later than 5pm also.

It been a long time since I've been to the Field Museum, however as soon as we showed up, the memories came flooding back! This place really is the standard against which all of the museums are based, at least in my mind. Upon entering, you are greeted by a number of folks who would love to sell you a family membership. We may actually consider this if we were here more than once every 3 or 4 years. For anybody who frequents the place, it seems like it would actually be a good deal if you go more than twice per year. The cost of admission was $25 for a basic admission, or $31 for admission to everything with a movie. We got the full package with the movie and it was well worth it. We ended up bumming around for about 3 hours and finished with a movie about the Galapagos Islands. Are three year old was particularly excited about seeing the different types of tortoises. Anybody who's been there, or anybody who's ever heard about it, you know that this place is gigantic. One of the main attractions, sue the Tyrannosaurus, is right in the middle of the place and the great meeting spot if you ever get separated from your loved ones! There's also a couple elephants that are on display in the main area as well. While the exhibits do rotate a bit, there are a number of staples that have been there as long as we can remember. This includes the animal exhibit where you can find any animal you can shake a stick at! Our favorite area was the large animal section where there was tons to look at and even more for a 3 year old to ask questions about. The exhibit on Africa was particularly nice, with the favorite spot for a 3 year old being a small exhibiton hyena poop- it's the little things! The huge find for the day was the children's lab downstairs. It seems like its open it fairly random times, but it was open while we were there so we made use of it. It was akin to a children's museum with a ton of interactive areas including a science area, music area, and in our area with crafts. Overall an absolute must hit area if you have kiddos that like to interact with their surroundings! All in all, this is similar to what I remember when I went as a kid and an absolute must for anybody who is in the area. We're looking forward to going back sometime when the kids are at home and we can look around at the exhibits a bit more. That said, we certainly didn't leave empty handed or with less information in our minds when we went with the kiddos.

I had always heard great things about this museum and I was not let down. There is so much to see here. It's very diverse in its offerings, definitely something for everyone. Make sure to allocate enough time for everything, there's tons of stuff!

Ah, Sue how I miss you! Nike and I came visited this amazing museum when we went to Chicago earlier in the year. The lines were a bit long but the museum was worth the wait. The museum was spacious, clean, and jammed pack with interesting exhibits. Even though we spent the entire day, we still didn't have enough time to fully enjoy the museum, will definitely be back for sure. (On a side note, if you love museum stores, I believe each one actually has different merch from each other )
