Stripping Away Vanity

Faith As A Crutch
One of my sons has taken up atheism with a vengeance. It's a bold and provocative life: claiming God does not exist. That way, you have nothing to live up to. Wild, huh? He accused me, on Christmas Day, of using faith as a crutch. At first, I was offended. ...

Be Grateful!
I have this note on my work station: Be Grateful! I tend to be a bit pessimistic, always waiting for the next calamity to strike. I lose sight of the good things. This little note helps to remind me that God has blessed me abundantly, and continues to do so...

My Constant Prayer Right Now

Trying to "end run" God
If you're a football fan, you know what an end run is. From Merriam-Webster: a football play in which the ballcarrier attempts to run wide around the end of the line We try to "end run" God a lot. I do. I figure I know better. I've got this - no need to wor...

Secret Santa!!
Too old for Santa? I think not. Yes, there are discussions as to whether we should "lie" to kids and tell them that Santa brings them gifts vs. We can't lie to the kids; it's wrong. There is also the "Christmas is about Jesus" vs. "But Santa is magical!" Yo...

A bit of poetry for your soul: Maya Angelou
Art by Jean-Pierre Weill from The Well of Being I'm a bit drained. Work is busy (good!) and we are in the midst of packing and purging. Part of the packing process feels like an archeological dig: the book one kiddo made in the 5th grade, mementoes from 1st...

Bad Mom
The past year has been one of loss for me and my family. Right now, we are in the midst of losing our house. We are moving in a month - because who wouldn't want to move in the middle of January in Michigan??? I've lived most of this year in physical pain. ...

Dr. Ruhlig and his staff are suberb! He has taken care of our family for 15+ years. They are great with kids, his rates are very reasonable, and it is easy to get in for emergencies.

This man frightened my daughter. He spent more time explaining his record-keeping system than attending to her. I would not recommend their services to anyone.

I have been here twice, both times for pedicures. I will not go back. The first time was okay. The second time I went, the man doing the pedicure seemed liked he could hardly be bothered. He was distracted the entire time, rarely spoke to me but engaged in conversation with many others in the shop. At one point, he tore off a part of my toenail. When I yelped, "That hurt!" he replied, "No, it didn't." Really?? Bad service, incompetent staff and unfriendly atmosphere. Nothing here to like.
