Stolen without shame from Christina Wodtke's GDC presentation. Great for game prototyping as well as UX.

Playtest version 1.1 of The Prince's Gambit for Vampire: The Masquerade is ready for your use and abuse! #rpg

GREAT playtest sessions of The Prince's Gambit yesterday at Visioncon. The players liked the game, and we found some good solutions that I'd like to try for the trouble spots (already integrated into the rules doc, which will be available tonight or tomorrow, after I get back from the show).

Table-talk and paranoia were high, and the players were very certain of the identity of one of the Sabbat members, but not sure at all about the other one. That's a what I was aiming for, which is good. The Camarilla managed to eke out a victory and hold praxis over the Sabbat, but the accusations were running rampant, which makes for a good environment for social deduction.

Prestige awarding is still a little clunky, but the players' suggested alternative system seems like a good improvement. We did a session with for players which left the (one) Sabbat player isolated. I'm inclined to require a minimum of five players, because the game simply plays better with that amount. The current ruleset calls for six, which is best for playtesting, at least right now.

Start Ugly when developing your game. #rpg

The early drafts of a game you’re designing probably won’t resemble the final game. You’ll be testing rules, ideas, even the essential experience itself, and changing them repeatedly. You’ll test version 0.8, then 0.9, then 1.0, then 1.2 (1.1 didn’t stand…

What is the Prince's Gambit? #rpg

You are a vampire; you own the night. And you’re not alone. There are others of you out there, the Kindred as you call yourselves, and your world is one of secret sects and hidden agendas. Some of you belong to the Camarilla, the aristocracy of the…

I looked into DriveThru a year ago to print cards for a prototype we were working on. We ended up printing locally because of turnaround times (prototype was on a travel deadline) but the DriveThru cards quality was very high, and I would have printed with you, had we not been making changes to them until the eleventh hour.

Excellent quality cards and low prices? That's golden.

Where do you spend your in-game cash? Money Problems #rpg

The dragon’s hoard is a mountain of gold pieces. Who doesn’t want a mountain of gold pieces? It’s a fairly safe assumption that almost every player wants a mountain of gold pieces. Given that the hobby grew out of fantasy stories, and that piles of money…
