The brainchild of Chef/Owner Phillip Foss, EL ideas’ mission statement is to ‘redefine fine dining.' Michelin starred EL ideas has carved a niche that separates itself by removing pretension and preconceptions from the fine dining arena. A small BYOB restaurant in a little known Chicago neighborhood, guests can enjoy a relaxed and unique setting not generally associated with restaurants serving cutting edge cuisine. Interaction with the chefs and fellow diners is not only welcome, it is encouraged. It is very common for guests to join the chefs in the kitchen during the meal to ask questions, take photos, and discuss trends.

El Ideas is the ideal foodie and photographer molecular gastronomy restaurant hidden away in Chicago. With an open dining room connected to the kitchen, you are allowed to see how your food is prepared AND plated, which is the coolest part! Plus, it's BYOB! Service: Very professional service without the stuffiness. Ambience: it's very casual - the chefs and waiters don't dress up, but you are welcome to. Food: All the flavors are spot on and really mesh together well. Always very well-thought out menus!

Dining at El Ideas was akin to dining in the living room of an amazing chef. The unique concept of this restaurant allows diners to go behind the curtain and see exactly how each dish is crafted, providing the opportunity to question the chefs as the dishes are plated! Diners are served "at the same time", so the entire restaurant experiences each course at the exact same time. This unique dining experience should not be missed by true foodies.

I went with 20 foodies who have eaten at many of the best restaurants on 5 continents. All were blown away by the concept & execution at El. Neither stuffy nor pretentious, this both made for a fun and innovative evening. And it is not all show - if you were blind and did not see the presentation, you'll would marvel at the melding flavors. It rivals any place I have been, and is a superior value especially with the byob. Kudos! Run there!

Quite possibly my favorite restaurant in Chicago. The creativity here is astounding, plus, it's nice to have an open view of the kitchen and interaction with the chefs. The BYOB policy makes it fun to help customize your own meal. Worth every penny.

I saw this on the Steve Harvey show and would never eat there knowing they sell goose liver pate. If more of the public knew what they did to the geese to get this they would be sick. Please check it out.

Definitely one of the best places to eat at in Chicago if you don't want to whole smugness of Michelin starred restaurants. The food is original, fun and tastes good. The best is you can dress in whatever the heck you wanted and really just focus on the food. Plus the open kitchen that allows you to interact with the chef makes the place alot cooler!

Tucked away on the corner of absolutely nowhere and the ghetto is a restaurant where imagination has no limitations and rules are meant to be broken. The dead end road leads to an eclectic space with 18 seats. When our first course was served, we were instructed to pick up our plates and lick them. No silverware was to be provided and using your fingers would be frowned upon. Amazing. Thank you for making fine dining fun and playful!
