I've walked by Southpaw at least a few hundred times, but I think I've only been there once before. I recently went back again with a few friends, and I was amazed at the service and food. Wish I had thrown Southpaw into my regular rotation earlier! Pretty full on a Saturday night, but we were lucky to get seats at the packed bar and then eventually seated at a table. We ordered a few drinks while we waited. The Southpaw iced tea was really good - sweet but strong. The What What was also good and well balanced with a spicy hint of jalapeno, but didn't taste as strong. Lots of great options for paleo, primal, & gluten-free foodies. I really enjoyed the smoked beef brisket (they offer lean, medium fatty, and fatty cuts) with sweet potatoes (no molasses/sugar added). Also tried the fried pickles with aoli, which were good, but a little too breaded for my taste. The hush puppies were also really good! Service was super friendly and atmosphere was casual and bustling. I can't wait to come back and try their other BBQ dishes!

Good service, pretty good selection of beer and cocktails. bbq sauces weren't great, bbq beans were like nothing I'd ever had before (not in the good way), and the brisket had little to no marinade/rub flavoring.

Lovely little restaurant in the Mission with a great cocktail list. We got a table on a Friday night on short notice. The service was super friendly and attentive. We shared one starter and one main, and that was plenty for 2 people! The atmosphere here is really nice too, I'll definitely be back!

This place is awesome! Stellar BBQ that fulfilled my craving immediately. I would recommend the "dinosaur" bone if you're ready for a ton of meat. It was delicious and enormous. I wasn't thrilled with their selection of sides but with that much meat I was ok without them. Our server was nice but she seemed a little distracted. I would definitely go back. Great location in the mission.

I love a hush puppy! so rare to come by. My ribs were excellent and so was the brie mac 'n cheese. There's several different sauces to coat your meat in. The collard greens were a bit too salty/vinegary. I would not recommend it. but for $20 you can get a decent size rack of ribs, two hush puppies, and 2 sides of your choice. The full bar is great too!

Really delicious southern food. I recommend the hamhock, cheesy grits and hush puppies. Once you're done wash it down with a delicious pickleback from the bar.
