Our CEO gave a talk recently about this history of the company and how to cultivate a creative culture. This is one of the many reasons why I love working at MailChimp.

There's so much going on here in Plus. I feel bad that I rarely log in, but the truth is that I rarely use the web interface of any social network. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, but I really can't stand keeping a browser tab dedicated to yet another firehose of information. I'm looking forward to the inevitable public API release and third party Google+ client apps that allow me to quickly scan streams and post without loosing focus from my current task. Until then, I hope you all have a great weekend, week, month, or whenever I happen to login and post here again.

Our office was "coffee ambushed" yesterday by Jason Dominy from Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters. We had fun and learned a lot about making really good coffee.

Introducing my brand new nephew, Calvin! You know, just to bring a little Facebook into G+ land.

What happens when you swap the logo text of two competing brands? I'm not really sure, but it probably kills brain cells.

If you've ever tried to guess what typeface is on that sign or package or magazine or TV show, you'll love this site...
Fun site called "Fonts in Use" does exactly what it says. Real world usage & extra background when clicked.

If you're here in the SouthEast, reMIX looks like it's going to be an awesome event. Some of the Atlanta Web Design Group people are planning it and a couple of my coworkers are speaking. Early Bird registration (until this Friday) is just $30. Who's coming?

Was scrolling through instagram today and saw Jared Spool's picture (below) with the caption, "Name this flower." I had no idea what it was, but I saved the image to my desktop and dragged it onto the searchbar at google.com/images. It apparently looks like a lot of sports images (?) but describing the image as "flower stalk" and clicking "visually similar images" led me straight to the answer. It's an Acanthus mollis. From a picture to a genus and species in about 2 minutes. The future is here.

So I guess G+ is officially here to stay. Curious to see how it will fit into the social media ecosystem. In my opinion, their long-term success depends largely on the versatility of the inevitable public API, how they handle business pages and of course, porting over Farmville.
I should probably be doing something work-related.

Data provided by Google Search. Special thanks to +Paul Allen.

I'll be posting more of these as we hit more milestones.

We've been using amCharts on MailChimp for a while. Pretty excited that amChart's (Raphael powered) JavaScript charts are finally catching up to what they've been doing for years in Flash.
