After 35,931 words, 276 pages and just over 220 photographs, at last- after years of planning and the inevitable blood sweat and tears endured with such a huge project, it is finally here and the story of Shetlands otters is communicated through our book 'Otters in Shetland- The tale of the draatsi'.

With a gap of over 20 years since a book was published on Shetlands otters it was really important to us to tell their full story and bridge a gap between a science-based reference book and a photographic story-telling book.
Our publisher, The Shetland Times said in their recent press release: "The book has been gaining plaudits from experts in the field of wildlife and photography weeks even before its release date" and then went on to quote Dr Hans Kruuk and wildlife cameraman Doug Allan and TV wildlife presenter Iolo Williams. You can read what they had to say about the book here www.shetlandphototours.co.uk/1265-2/

This has been a joint venture between myself and Brydon Thomason over several years and you can read much more about the book and preview some of the pages here www.shetlandphototours.co.uk/1265-2/

The official launch date is December 12th in Shetland but it can be pre-ordered from the publisher Shetland Times here www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/shop/product.php?productid=313&cat=0&page=

I hope you like it.

A Vampire's Toolkit
I've written a new Parasite of the Day blog post!
This post is about Colubraria reticulata - a snail that feed on the blood of fish. But how does a snail feed on the blood of an agile animal like a fish, and what kind of adaptations does it have to enable it to live its vampiric lifestyle? Find out in the post below!
