I see stuff like this, and wonder.  If you were a provider of online documentation services, or file storage, such as Google Drive, or Dropbox, and you saw a security issue crop up for their issue in what could potentially be universal, wouldn't you immediately go and test your software too?

Dropbox got hit with URL disclosure issue in November 2013, but didn't do anything about it until May of this year.  You'd think Google, being the big vendor they are, would take a quick test to see if they were impacted by similar issues when it made main stream media. It's not like it's hard to validate the issue.

Fun observation of the day... #Evernote will take pictures of Post-It notes and auto-categorized based on colours, and even give you searchable handwriting.

Bad observation of the day; the ability to search the notes seems to vary by platform.  For example, to test above feature, I hand wrote two tasks on a Post-It notes, and took pictures using the prescribed method.  This imported just fine into Evernote, and is visible on phone (Android) and desktop (Windows 8).

If I search for the word "eva", it finds it on the mobile platform, but not the desktop version... The mobile version reports that it found 5 notes, but the desktop only found 3, skipping the 2 Post-It notes.

What's odd is that I was thinking this might be a license feature between pro and free, however the desktop version found "eva" in a screenshot I'd taken (as well as various other words in photos I'd taken of stuffs). So either it's a feature that is disabled because I said it was a Post-It Note, or it's treated differently, or the mobile has better search capabilities than my desktop.

Has anybody had any issues with working offline with the Android app (v1.38) and tt-rss 1.12? Specifically in "publishing" an article, when the articles are synced, it doesn't seem to be flagging it in the web site.

One of my 'favourite' things about the SQL server installer is that you have to install an installer to install the actual service.  In other news I have to install SQL tools on my machine again, ugh!

So fun news... Got a notification from CrashPlan that my desktop PC hadn't backed up in a few days, figured I must have killed the backup while playing games. Then remembered I have rebooted several times since last game playing.

Doing some tinkering, I found a bunch of services on my computer having issues, including Windows Installer, graphics controller services, CrashPlan, and a few others that are dependent on networking...

Turns out there might be an issue on Win8.1 with KB2887595, at least several forum posts seem to suggest some networking related issues since that update was installed.  The problem is, I have no way to remove it, because Windows Installer service is hosed.  Oh, and Win8 disables the "last known good configuration" option on boot now. Weeeee.

Testing new phone case for my S4. It's IP68 rated, so before sticking my phone in it, I'm seeing how well it handles a little water.

I am quite surprised at the size of the case. It doesn't add that much size to the phone, as compared to the Otterbox Defender I had on my Attrix. The rubbery edges are nice add the phone is very slick otherwise.

Something I don't do nearly as much as I used to. I miss hitting the lakes and fishing.

Picked up a pair of new shoes, some 5.11 Tactical Trainers, incredibly comfortable, but they have weird shoelaces, and couldn't figure out why, until I tried to untie them.  The bumps stop the laces coming undone themselves, and requires a little extra tug to untie them normally... Pretty ingenious.

Charging the battery before I head out camping this weekend.  Need to setup solar stuffs to keep it topped off.  Gets used for all sorts of stuff while out camping; HAM radio, cell charger, inflatable mattress pump (not mine), lighting.  I also need to build some retainer stuff inside the case, battery slides a bit, but the stuff jammed down the sides keep it pretty stable.
