Hi David I enjoyed reading your post. It links beautifully with the fact that school librarians and the resources in the library have a huge role to play in the digital landscape. I wish teachers though about the school library more as a way to use digital technology in the classroom. Using the online catalogue and other online resources is a brilliant way to start. It encourages the students away from Google and provides not only the skills but also the quality information that teachers are looking for.

School librarians have a vast amount of knowledge and connections that currently is being wasted due to the fact that teachers do not understand their role or their skills set. We can not only teach digital and information literacy but can also link your teachers to schools around the world via Google Hangouts. Whilst many teachers do not feel comfortable with using social media or tech in the classroom it is something that school librarians can teach and support.

We need more headteachers to understand our role and insist on teachers using the school library correctly. Sorry for the rant but as a librarian (you may have guessed that already) it is so frustrating that teachers do not use the resources in school because they do not understand the expertise available.
