Sorry but Molly's post was from 2010. It is a good reminder, however, and makes me wonder whatever became of those discussions. Or did I just forget about it with all the other crap that's happened in the last year?

I'm not in London and I'm fine. If you received an email from me claiming to be stuck in London and needing money, it is a hoax. Please ignore it. Thx.

Apparently "control room" is an iOS app for myspace. I guess they named it that so people wouldn't have to suffer the embarrassment of being seen using myspace

The cat-fight continues between Google and Oracle. Some wins for Oracle...

Responding to Google's claim that it would likely owe zero:

"Fortunately for Oracle, Judge William H. Alsup agreed with Oracle on this point, saying that such a claim would be ridiculous, and that Google is definitely going to pay up "probably in the millions, maybe in the billions" at some point."

"'You're going to be on the losing end of this document with Andy Rubin on the stand. You think about that,' Alsup continued. 'And I want to say this: Wilful infringement is final. There are profound implications of a permanent injunction. I'm not saying there is wilful infringement, but that is a serious factor when you're considering an injunction.'"

That 'document' being an internal email saying:

"'What we've actually been asked to do by Larry and Sergey is to investigate what technology alternatives exist to Java for Android and Chrome,' the Google executive wrote, referring to founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. 'We've been over a hundred of these and think they all suck. We conclude that we need to negotiate a license for Java.'"

Ouch.

Interesting usability study of drupal 7 http://drupal.org/node/1175694
------
Overall Results

After 75 minutes of using Drupal 7, participants were asked about their overall expressions. Participants commented:

“This was just hard. I struggled with it. I will have my sister help me.”
“If you know what are you doing, it’s okay. But for the first time user, it is a little shaky.”
“A little confusing at first … but I think you need to toy around with it … get familiar with it.”
“Not as user friendly as I thought.”
When the participants were asked to select five words they associated with their Drupal 7 experience, 60% of their comments were positive. The most prominent word was “Customizable”. (See the complete results.)
------

The word I associate is "unsurprising"

I'm not recommending against it. I like Drupal. It just depends on what you are trying to build.
It's disappointing though that the Drupal 7 UI improvements are getting this kind of response.

Good stuff for managers. However, having one of the rules in your culture being "Don't be a sissy" using a word that is commonly used to insult gay and other kids is counter-productive. It's a particular word that evokes memories of discrimination

No, seems like the Gayglers followed up when this first came to light in March and dismissed it as a throwaway comment from a single interviewee that wasn't contained in the actual internal manager guidance.

I hope that lone interviewee got the message from the Gayglers that using "Don't be a sissy" so negatively while Google has been supporting the anti-bullying and anti-suicide message of the "It Get's Better" Project so publicly was not cool.

"A carrier Wi-Fi network should always be better than using a cellular Mi-Fi or air card," he said. "But I can't speak for every situation. Perhaps there are bottlenecks. But a well-engineered carrier network should deliver better performance. Air cards and Mi-Fi's are better used in places where Wi-Fi isn't available at all."
Of course, says the guy who's company builds WiFi infrastructure for trains like Acela. No way. My own MiFi is going to give me a dedicated 3G connection that I don't have to share with the kid behind me watching netflix.
