Very Large Cairn
Giant Cairn: A very large  10 foot high  glacial boulder serves as the base.  The Forrester has kindly let me mark the Cairns with surveyor tape.

Where the light comes in...
This evening, with the sun was low in the west,  I noticed that the light strikes the "cairn" of stones which you can see just behind the mother bear in the photo below.  A very large, old Beech Tree grew  up tightly behind it..a couple of hundred years ago...

Bear Waymarking
One of the trail cameras caught a flash of black fur as a bear streaked by; from the look of several logs and stumps, it had been looking for grubs.  A fresh set of animal tracks after this morning's rain caught my eye....bigger than the neighbor's Black La...

The Two Does
There were two does that had fawns in the nearby woods  this year. One was older, had a lot of scars and injuries, including the loss of vision in one eye.  Date and time stamps indicate that they are traveling together.

Massachusetts Cairns 2
Some of the Cairns I photographed last week have now been marked with surveyor's tape. But there are more, which are so buried by old woodland debris, as to be almost unrecognizable. Turtle shaped head in center, with debris almost obscuring the rest of it....

Bear and her Cub
Bear and Cub. The wood cutter has cut the hardwoods  100 feet west of this spot, so I shall have to move the camera sooner than later as it is attached to a hardwood. I've been scouting for a new location without success.

Still no sign of the Fawns
There are two does in the area with fawns in hiding. Lots of bear signs as well, but now fawns as yet.

Introduction
I paint, en plein air; and have a trail camera "outside, over there," in the woods beyond the edge of the garden.
