For those who read my lesswrong comments (http://lesswrong.com/user/XiXiDu). If you wonder why I have been talking about antinatalism and the inapplicability of lesswrong style rationality, see the following post by user:muflax (+Stefan Dorn): http://blog.muflax.com/2012/02/22/the-end-of-rationality/

Oh, so you are XiXiDu, yes? I will reply via LessWrong but I am curious, why do you state: "...a sufficiently intelligent process wouldn’t mind turning us into something new, something instrumentally useful."
Is there any evidence or logic to suppose this?Mar 7, 2012
+Singularity Utopia I think that the burden of proof is on those who claim that something as complex as universal benevolence is going to emerge from sufficient levels of intelligence, i.e. is an effect of intelligence.
Humans are social beings that have been imperfectly honed by evolution to function in groups. Imperfectly because our altruism has leaking cracks that cause us to encompass other beings, even inanimate objects, in our considerations. But this does not have to be the case for an artificial intelligence.Mar 7, 2012
Human altruism does not have "leaking cracks"... we encompass others beings within our sense of compassion because intellectually we understand cause and consequence thus we realise no entity is an island, we are all interconnected. All beings are dependent upon the environment, ecosystem, thus it makes logical sense to avoid making enemies; it makes sense to protect the world you live in (people therefore love trees because people love life). A robot may not need to breathe air thus it doesn't need trees but robots do and will co-exist with humans thus what is valuable to humans will be valuable to robots similar to how what is valuable to bees is valuable to humans because the pollinating aspect of bees ensures our food.
It would make no logical sense for an intelligent robot or AI to destroy humans. Any intelligent being will have a certain amount of loyalty towards its parents unless its parents have cruelly abuse the child, thus despite differences truly intelligent AIs won't hurt humans either on purpose or accidentally.
Not all humans function in groups but let's not address that. I shall focus on our intelligence. Human intelligence is the only type of intelligence we know. True intelligence is human intelligence not because it is regarding the phenomenon of having a human body but our intelligence is true intelligence because it is logical based upon the universe, awareness, and progress; the progress of consciousness.
If a cockroach was intelligent, at least as intelligent as a cat or dog, I would, and I am sure others would, have empathy for it.
The proof of universal benevolence is that due to our increasing intelligence humans have moved away from violence, thus as the only intelligent beings in the universe, which we are aware of, we must conclude the only available evidence so far indicates universal benevolence.
Furthermore, AIs are being created by humans so it is safe to say they will largely acquire our traits which is why many robot shave a humanoid shape.Mar 7, 2012
