I know some very bright engineers that have had to move into sales because their pharmaceutical employers have moved R&D overseas. It's disgusting business practice on many levels.
It's a part of the "too many chiefs, too little indians problem," IMO. There are people working in the industry who have no experience in any real industry outside of "business." Business by itself is not an industry. For example, someone who knows cars and picks up an MBA is an asset - someone who knows "business" only and picks up an MBA is a hazard to society (and is often shortsighted and the business will either fail or become very dirty).
