As a boy +Macklemore studied #ballet at +Pacific Northwest Ballet School. #boysdancetoo

From +Rolling Stone: "The rapper grew up in a comfortable two-parent home in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. In third grade, his social-worker mom encouraged him to take ballet lessons in solidarity with a classmate who was being bullied… 'I was a weird, creative, extroverted child,' he says. 'And I always had a desire to be on a stage.'" http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/macklemore-thrift-shop-hero-20130411

It's time for a balletcation! Tomorrow we head to L.A. see American Ballet Theatre at The Music Center. On my agenda: mixed rep on Thursday (Apollo, Chamber Symphony, Symphony in C) and Le Corsaire on Sunday. Super excited!

The Bolshoi #Ballet's Sleeping Beauty, with Svetlana Zakharova and David Hallberg, will be shown in many U.S. movie theaters tomorrow, Sun Dec 15. Here in San Francisco it will be at the Vogue Theatre at 9 am. (Yikes. I'd love to watch it, but that early I probably won't make it after all.)

A couple of interesting articles in +The New York Times on the varying experiences from different sections at the theater. What are your favorite seats for watching dance and other performing arts?

Planning a quick L.A. getaway to see Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty at the Music Center, probably either next Friday or Saturday, November 29-30... and maybe catch the +LA Phil and +LA Opera that weekend as well. Cup runneth over!  #ballet   #matthewbourne   #sleepingbeauty

Love this +Nissan commercial… with car safety features as told through interpretive #dance. (Also, they had me at the opening shot of the midcentury modern home.)

Introduction
Welcome to the Google+ companion to my dance blog, The Music and the Mirror! There's also my Twitter feed and Facebook page, but if G+ is how you roll, follow this page for an occasional sprinkling of ballet fairy dust: dance news especially in the Bay Area, and my assorted thoughts as I learn ballet as an adult!
