An increasingly popular measure of affective empathy suffers from gender bias.
A test of affective empathy, the Reading the Mind in the Eyes test, is gender biased due to the restricted range of female images and emotional expression. It should be redesigned with careful attention to parity between both the range and types of emotions depicted for men and women, and to include non-stereotyped female images.

oh snap--I should've tried this demo with my summer students. I did frozen colored ice in sea water vs freshwater which is also nifty but different.

Contagious Yawning: Evidence of Empathy? - my latest at +Scientific American

Chimps and dogs do it with familiars, but it is unclear whether human-dog contagious yawning is due to empathy or social mimicry.

In 2008, psychologist Ramiro Joly-Mascheroni and colleagues from the University of London showed, for the first time, and human yawns are contagious for domestic dogs. Dogs’ unique social skills in interacting with humans is probably the result of selection pressures during the domestication process. Therefore, they reasoned, it is possible that as a result of that process, dogs may have developed the capacity of empathy towards humans. And if so, it is further possible that they may yawn when they see and hear humans yawn.

And I was thinking that I am the only one infected with this yawning syndrome.
