You have written a heartwarming piece. Sobering to know that we become more aware of the love we have for our parents as they age. When I sit after prayer to supplicate, I ask God to be merciful to my parents and my eyes at times well up with tears knowing that one day their presence will only be a thing felt in the heart. Our growing wisdom allows us to become more aware of our own ephemeral existence and we learn to recognize our common reality and destination which helps us foster a closer connection to our Creator (an extremely important connection we must hang on to through worship);in the process, the sullen thought of aging parents is pierced with glimmers of hope, happiness and the epiphany that we will be with our parents and loved ones once again for all eternity.

When I was a kid I, like millions of other children across America, ardently believed in Santa Claus. The problem? That persnickety detail that I'm Muslim.

A few years ago, I approached my desk after a meeting and was greeted by giant images of donuts, burgers, ice cream, and french fries on my cubicle. This was my then-boss's charming way of helping...
