You know those people who sell bottles of water around PNC park ?
I always thought they were enterprising individuals trying to make a buck.
Well, I'm pretty sure its a big organized operation. Today I saw them setting up on my lunch walk.

The Article contains a really cool video on how they transport Wind Turbine Blades to the top of a mountain in China. Its really wild how the blades are mounted on the truck and how they can reposition the blades to avoid obstacles.

From afar, wind turbines look like such majestic things, turning lazily in the breeze and creating energy. Located on tops of mountains or in open fields, some people complain that they ruin the scenery, but I like them. And I’ve always wondered how something so big can get up to the top of a mountain. As it turns out, trucks. Trucks are how it happens.

I recently stumbled across this section of the Pennsylvania Constitution:

"The people have a right to clean air, pure water and the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania's public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustees of these resources, the commonwealth shall preserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people."
Article I Section 27 Pennsylvania Constitution

Then I found this paper that explains how the courts see it. :-(

This is really cool. When I was a kid my neighbor made polish cannons to shoot tennis balls using lighter fluid all the time. Destin's potato cannon is much better than anything we made with aluminum cans and duct tape.

I've been studying Potato Guns for YEARS. I always thought firing from the center was the best way to do it. Turns out I'm probably wrong.

Watch Astronauts try, very slowly, to inflate a balloon in space.
I've been watching since 5:30am and its kinda like watching paint dry. Very slow progress, hard to see changes between bursts of air.

The ISS is getting a little renovation done, courtesy of its very first attachable space house, which is almost ready to inflate. Will it pop? Float away? Let’s watch to find out.

City driving is hard. I was behind an Uber self driving car this evening, and it got stuck trying to go through a tricky light. Then a truck really screwed things up.

Interesting podcast with a guy that tears down cars and writes very detailed reports on what it takes to build them. He thinks very highly of the BMW i3, calls it the Model T of our time.

I really hate property assessments. I believe that they are unfair and would love to see a new way of funding our schools.

http://www.post-gazette.com/business/development/2016/08/18/Disparities-found-in-Allegheny-County-property-assessments/stories/201608180032
The state is finding growing disparities in Allegheny County property assessments, and some fear it could open the door for a rash of appeals next year, particularly among larger commercial real estate owners looking for a way to lower their tax bills. That could be bad news for the city of Pittsburgh, its school district and other taxing bodies if potential appeals cut into the property tax revenue they are counting on to balance increasingly ti...
