I recently read a postmortem in which the devs are giving the following advice:

"Don't quit your day job."

Of course, they didn't followed this old advice as... I don't know, they never saw it before? Thought this wouldn't apply to them?

So basically it means that a few things about indie game development cannot be told too many times. Here's me repeating nothing new...

Here are the results of the poll. Hint: If you only check the % of each answers you're missing the real results of the poll ;-)

I'm running a Twitter poll about how people learn about new games released by indie devs. Obviously not scientific and not optimal (Twitter apparently has a limit of 4 choices) but it'd be nice to have more than just a dozen of votes anyway.

If you don't mind sharing: https://twitter.com/Over00/status/809397896189804545

It's not self-promoting or anything like that. Just some curiosity I might refer to in some blog post later.

When 13,579 are currently on sale, what's really interesting are the games not part of this sale.

Did my daily check on Steam's front page just in case by some accident March of the Living would appear there but it's clear only top sellers are appearing there now. Even as a player it's pretty boring as once you've check your wishlist then you won't discover anything new on the front page as you most likely already know about all games appearing there...

I understand a game like Rimworld to not even "participate" in this sale as honestly, what's the point to compete against 13,579 other games during this particular sale if your game is already doing more than fine at regular price.

If you still didn't get March of the Living then I can assure you it won't get any cheaper this year (read here the price will be the same during that possible Winter sale that may or may not be coming...): http://store.steampowered.com/app/458000/

I kinda like seeing these 3 posts on the front page of http://www.gamasutra.com/ right now. The "we failed miserably" and "we had massive success" posts can still be interesting but it's nice from time to time to see the many shades of gray between the two typical extremes.

I wrote this as it's usually not something we read often or receive much attention. What we usually hear about is either when a studio shuts down or have to let people go or when a game becomes a massive hit. We don't hear much from the middle as I guess it's not that exciting for people outside of game development.

I'm surely not the first to write about this so count this post as just one more instance some people might see if they missed everything else.
