Army Navy Country Club Improves Golf Course Pond Quality With Cost Saving PondHawk®

Army Navy Country Club installed two PondHawk solar powered pond aeration systems on its historic 4th and 5th holes to improve water quality and reduce chemical usage.

“It is our honor to have PondHawk tending the ponds at Army Navy Country Club in cooperation with Genesis Turfgrass.” said Sandra Burton, President and Co-Founder, LINNE Industries. “LINNE Industries respects the club’s military culture and heritage and we are grateful for support from Bob Wilber, Superintendent at Army Navy Country Club and his team for embracing our PondHawk solution on this historic golf course”

Founded in November 1924 as the Army Navy and Marine Corps Country Club, the Army Navy Country Club broke ground on the site of historic Fort Richardson in August 1927. Commanding the highest ground of all the forts on the Virginia side of Washington, DC, only fragments of Fort Richardson remain flanking the Red 9 green.  On over 500 acres of rolling and wooded landscape in Arlington, Virginia, the 54 championship golf holes have hosted members that have included Major General John A. Lejeune, USMC; Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, USN; General Omar Bradley, USA; and Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, and William J. Clinton.

DSU and PondHawk® Selected for $100,000 Pond Aeration Study

•   LINNE Industries supplied 3 PondHawk solar-powered pond aeration systems for a research project designed to assess water quality solutions for golf course and community ponds
•   Project will be the first of its kind to quantify the benefits of solar-powered subsurface pond aeration

NEWARK, DE – AUGUST 27, 2015 – LINNE Industries confirmed today they supplied Delaware State University with 3 PondHawk solar-powered pond aeration systems for its research project on water quality and aquatic weed control for golf course ponds. The project was made possible by a grant from the Delaware Biotechnology Institute's Center for Advanced Technology program.
“The research project was driven from our work with golf course superintendents,” said Sandra Burton, co-founder, LINNE Industries. “We are excited to partner with Delaware State University on this innovative study and look forward to providing superintendents, course owners and communities with meaningful data to make decisions on their water features.”
The PondHawk systems will be compared with 2 other pond management strategies in this nine pond study. Over the next 12 months, experts at the Delaware State University (DSU) Aquaculture Research and Demonstration Facility will measure aeration’s impact on pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, algae, and mosquitos while LINNE Industries assesses the energy and maintenance costs. LINNE Industries and DSU will host a Kick-Off event on September 24, 2015 from 1:30 – 4 pm. Golf course owners, managers, superintendents, and anyone interested in pond management is invited to attend to learn more about the study and talk with the study principals.
“We have been interested in testing alternative energy sources at the Aquaculture Research and Demonstration Facility for a while now, and this project is allowing us to explore this technology”, said Dr. Dennis McIntosh, Delaware State University’s Principal Project Investigator.
