Another speed illustration with this wedding. Thought I'd try my hand at almond blossoms.
No, the blossoms weren't falling like that. Check out the video at the end of the blog to see how I put this one together. Talk about a fast wedding. Anita and Tony got in touch with me about their wedding just a few sho...

An after dark wedding at Seven Sycamores in Ivanhoe.
I’ve long held the belief that in times of great need the universe will often put people in our paths that possess the power to help us through our troubles. It’s up to us to decide where we go from there. Sometimes we get so...

This is a late post, but well worth the wait.
So let’s set the scene. It’s September 20th of 2014. California struggles through yet another year of drought and summer shows no signs of letting go. Wells in the south are going dry, the King fire near Pollock Pines rages o...

So I flew to New York and took some wedding photos on a rainy day in July.
Melody and I have a friend named Magda. She moved here from Michigan many years ago. She was the first person outside of family to hold Aiden when he was born. She’s a little loud, a little in your face, definitely talkative,...

A patriotic July 5th wedding at East Lake Ranch in Turlock CA.
Cupid’s arrow truly can strike at any given moment. For Sarah and Drew it was on an elevator while interning in Washington D.C. Sarah was taken with how smartly dressed the young man was opposite her. A conversation followed ...

Just and FYI for everyone out there, if you're in public, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy. That means that even if you were on the beach and you thought some creepy kid was taking pictures of you sunbathing, he has every right to do so.

As an update to this article, the attacker got a slap on the wrist with probation. I wonder what the sentence would have been if a 23 year old man attacked a 17 year old girl?
A 17-year-old boy was attacked on a Connecticut beach by a woman who called him a pervert for flying his drone over the public space.

Groom had a great idea for an anniversary gift.
Just a quick post about something really cool I got to work on a couple weeks back. Two years ago today we shot Rick and Denise's wedding. It was filled with wonderful little details that everyone put a lot of time, effort, a...

Was fortunate enough to have Melody with me on this one.
Another wedding shot with my beautiful and talented wife, Melody! It was really important to take her out of semi-retirement to shoot this, and really, I don’t think she’d have listened to me if I’d told her she couldn’t come...

A newborn shoot. Slowly chiseling away at this mountain of work in front of me.
One of the wonderful things about photography, when you don’t remain confined to a niche, is that you get to see lives develop over time and families grow. You see brides on what many say is the happiest day of their lives co...

Kids are back to school, that means it's time to get back to blogging. Here's a traditional Mexican wedding from the end of June. (I have a LOT of catching up to do).
“It’s a wedding. Things are going to go wrong. It’s how you react that decides how you’ll remember your day.” This is what I tell just about every one of our brides at some point during their day. Usually, it’s something mino...

How cool would this be at a wedding reception? Clearly not taking into account the drunk groomsmen trying to catch it.

Story
Introduction
You might have caught me as a student on creativeLIVE with Zack Arias or come across my ongoing project, 70in70, an attempt to photograph all of the closing state parks in California. I attended the Academy of Arts in San Francisco as an animation major before switching over to get a BA in English at CSU Stanislaus.

I've been a sign maker, graphic designer, retoucher, and now photographer. For me, the photograph starts far before the shutter is released and continues well past that moment.
