We ate breakfast here and it was good, nothing special. I guess I always expect that places in Kona should have great coffee, but it was only okay. Eggs, pancakes, toast and bacon. Just standard items is all we really tried.

You may wonder why I gave an almost 100 year old restaurant a 5 star? There is more to a 5 star than most think. To me it is an experience you don't find everyday, something different, something that gives you that "feel good" feeling. This is one of them. Old, rustic, menu on the wall, served family style, friendly place. They are world renowned for their Pork Chops, but to me, my favorite, the Liver and Onions with bacon on top - awesome! Its about 13 miles outside of Kona, on your way to Volcano, or City of Refuge, plane it where you can have a lunch or dinner, its worth it.

Historical and quaint with very tasty comfort food. Sautéed squash with pork was a flavorful surprise side. The mac salad was an evil-good heart stopper. The pork chop was the star of the table. Well cooked and not tough. Get the onions and gravy with it. Waited 40 minutes for a table, arriving at 6 for dinner, but it was worth it.

This place is a very basic hotel/hostel. There are no bells and whistles in the rooms, but the price is great, the staff is friendly, and there is a really lovely garden out in the court yard. We only stayed here one night before moving on to Volcano, but if you are looking for a budget room in this area of the island- this is a great bet!

Awesome spot to grab lunch... this is a down to earth establishment akin to what you would find on an interstate in the middle of North Dakota. Simple food at a reasonable price for hawaii. Food is served family style which is great if you have kids who don't eat much like mine. Would highly recommend

Paper-thin walls and intoxicated guests made for a frustrating stay here. The building is uninsulated so one can hear the bustling kitchen, creaky stairs, doors, and hallway, many individual conversations, and even down to the common room. The historic hotel itself is very interesting and the restaurant has nice affordable meal offerings. Convenient location, friendly family staff and affordable pricing by Hawaiian island standards. Bring earplugs and it should be fine!

The pork chops with gravy and grilled onions is the best always the same just how I like it. The sides are real good to.
