Can the UN save the London pub?

The traditional London pub is under threat and one closes every week in the UK's capital. Cheap supermarket beer, wine bars and the economic downturn are all being blamed. The pub has long been a cultural institution in Britain and a tourist attraction for visitors.

Check out this video that looks at efforts to stem the decline including a bid to gain a world heritage status from UNESCO.

Tracking commitments pledged by the international community towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Introduction
We are a UN initiative which tracks, monitors and provides detailed information on policy and financial commitments made by UN Member States, private sector, civil society and other international stakeholders towards the achievement of the MDGs and their implementation. Our website serves as a one-stop resource for policymakers, academics, researchers and civil society interested in what governments and the international community have done and are doing in support of the achievement of the MDGs by 2015.

There has been a widespread lack of clarity on the amounts and policies committed by donors and recipient countries alike, and especially on how much of such commitments actually are delivered. Our efforts in pooling together all existing information on commitments made in support of the MDGs will contribute to increasing transparency, and strengthening accountability, but also to help Member States target their future interventions.
