Server error, as last year :D (but now we know who to blame, thanks to "Inside Look" posts;) )

As usual at ENS, the main question 10 minutes before the start of the round are :
- Is there any working internet ? Does someone has a rescue phone with tethering?
- This room is clearly too small... Are there any available rooms nearby?

I wanna buy a movie. Right. BUY. B-U-Y. A movie.

Why would I ever want to do such a thing ? Why would I want to pay for something I can have for free on the internet ?

Cause I think a movie has a value. People invested time and money in a movie, in this case the producer, director, actors, etc, in a movie I find good, so I want to reward them for the good job, thus buying the movie.

Good.

Now, what I want: the movie. And be able to play it on my computer, even if I switch computer, run linux on it, etc. I have the excellent VLC player on all my OS so that shouldnt be such a problem. If I can buy the .iso of the dvd so that I can burn it and see it on my dvd player on tv, it would be even better, but any good video format is okay, too.

What I want (2): pay the people that actually deserve it (the warner, actors, etc).

Well, actually, it seems that I could find absolutely no solution for this not-so-simple problem.

What I did: I went to the wb online shop (I was happy to see it existed :-) and not being forced to pay intermediaries resellers ), selected my movie, carefully read the FAQ & terms etc, found some strange things there (I can only read it on a windows machine ? only download it with ie6 or ie7 ? wtf ? only watch it with win media player ? wtf ? we'll see that once I have the file, I bet I'll find a workaround. )
"Buy Windows Media
These Windows Media format downloads are yours to own and can be played back on your Windows PC or Windows-enabled devices."
-> if they are mine to own, I'll do whatever I want with it, that's simple.

9.95$ , seems fair for a 2006 movie.

now, a button: "Download"... good enough. click.

"We have detected that you do not have the Media Manager player installed. You must install the Media Manager Player in order to view your download purchases. Please click the button below to begin installation."
Oh, right. I understand now why windows only. This shitty download software only works on windows. okay, then, windows.
[2 min later, software installed, windows rebooted (just in case)]
Again the same message ? Well, no, thats not fair. I installed it, now I should be able to download. Wait... it said IE ? okay, let's try on IE. I have only IE 9, not ie6 or ie7, but it'll probably do. Oh, wait, what ? an ActiveX control ? That sort of thing still exists ? Okay, okay, I install that...

What, now?
Nothing.
Nothing happens when I click the download button. After some research, it seems that the cinemanow (or roxionow) player & donwload thing it wanted to install does not work properly. why ? I dont know (even in compatibility mode and running as an admin [ I trust the warner shop site not to link to malwares... well I hope so. let's pray. ] I get a window of nothingness.)

So, for not being able to download a single .mov file full of DRM, I spent hours and will probably wait days waiting for a solution.

But well... I bought it, right ? the money is gone ?

So I went to a certain links website, made a search with the name of my movie, clicked on 2 links, was redirected to meg*****.com , waited some seconds, downloaded a 700Mb file free of any DRM in 15 minutes, and now I'm going to watch my damn movie and export it on anything I want.

Conclusion:

Dear industry,
If you ever wanted to know WHY so much people pirate movies : Have you ever considered the state of the legal offers ? What do people want ?
People want to watch movies. People want to be able to watch their movies on any platform, with any player, at any time.
People can get what they want on the illegal offers, but cannot get what they want from the legal offer.
