In case you missed our Bird Celebration in person, here’s the digital version. Can you believe all the hard work these onithologists did?

We saw lots of birds on the Jamaica Bay field trip: a glossy ibis, tree sparrows, mute swans, house finches and big giant mosquito birds. No. Those weren’t birds. They were actually mosquitos. We also saw terrapins swimming in the water and horseshoe crabs, too. We fell in love with some rocks, but we admired them them put them back where they belonged.

Our partnership with Project Green Reach at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens has been a huge hit with the 2-508 scientists. Here are some scenes from both the trip to the garden and our on-going plant observation in school.

At long last we have finished writing our personal narratives. We celebrated by sharing our published work with class 2-505. We learned so much in this unit. We learned how to add details like dialogue, sensory descriptions and sounds. We also learned how to write descriptive and engaging beginnings and endings by noticing what published authors like Donald Crews and Ezra Jack Keats do in their stories. Of course we had to finish the day with some Choice Time!
