Another intense work day. Always good to spin up new data infrastructure and tools but I'm badly in need of some get-my-shit-together time. On hols next week.

After I published my SXSW panel visualisation, +Adam Greenfield asked on Twitter about the gender distribution of the proposers: https://twitter.com/#!/agpublic/status/104584817500364800

Using name-popularity data from the 1990 US census - e.g. http://www.census.gov/genealogy/names/dist.male.first - I made an estimate of the gender of each panel organiser.

277 names weren't recognized, but 1686 matched and the split was:

44% Female / 56% Male

The ruby code I used, in case anyone wants to verify my logic: https://gist.github.com/1163499

A friend pointed me to some interesting examples of early Google+ abuse. They involve mis-use of email notification privacy loopholes, and represent a potentially significant security hole in this still-evolving product. Have you encountered any particularly pervasive, clever, or alarming forms of abuse on Google+? Share below. Unrelated: here is an animated cat GIF.
