I guess reading and writing to the same sector of the disk for close to 20 years might not be such a good idea. The issues was only discovered when the RAM battery in the equipment died (apparently it stored an emulated version of the floppy drive in memory )and I tried to load the backup configs from this floppy :)
Lol. We had a hdd that failed after a similar lifecycle that cut a ring out of the drive. When we pulled i apart, it had a floating donut in the case with the remainder still on the cylinder.
