+Eli Luberoff The story of the original desktop graphing calculator

"At 1:00 a.m., we trekked to an office that had a PowerPC prototype. We looked at each other, took a deep breath, and launched the application. The monitor burst into flames."

sadface@truck drivers with hard lives. If it's any consolation, you won't have to work such a hard job in a couple years, because trucks are gonna be driverless by then.

It's great that students of European descent are doing well, but I want to see the scores for nonimmigrant African-American students compared to nonimmigrant African-European students. How big is the gap between demographics in America vs other countries?

Unix Tip of the Day: Search and replace in multiple files with

find * -exec sed -i '' 's/foo/bar/g' {} \;

Contrary to Google's top relevant search results, you need neither Perl nor a loop, just the standard Unix find command.

edit: clarify it searches and replaces the text inside multiple files

I use this all the time to strip accidentally-committed whitespace:

git ls-files | xargs -n1 sed -i 's/\s\+$//'

+Jay Adkisson Interesting point, there's a whole class of things even git's fabulous, magical merges will completely miss.

Yeah, IMO feature branches make much more sense for little fixes in pull requests. We've definitely had a couple of times where a long-lived feature branch became near impossible to merge back, not because of textual conflicts, but because of these kinds of semantic conflicts.

IMO this is a good argument for keeping your commits small and contained, which tools like git enable you to do. That enables other people to understand what you did, and hopefully why.

Some Of The Most Mind-Blowing Facts: http://www.quora.com/Strange-Stuff/What-are-some-of-the-most-mind-blowing-facts

Highlights:
- If you properly shuffle a deck of cards, in all likelihood, the resulting deck has never been seen before in the history of the world.
- There is a species of jellyfish that is immortal.
- The time difference between when Tyrannosaurus and Stegosaurus lived is greater than the time difference between Tyrannosaurus and now.
- There are more cells of bacteria in your body than there are human cells. (Indeed, there are more cells of E. coli alone than of human cells.)
- The guidance computer from the Apollo 11 mission ran at 1.024 MHz, about 1/6th of the processing power of a TI-83 calculator, and it took human beings to the moon.

it's correct as written, you might've misread, that's 1.024 MHz, not 1,024 MHz
