Shake & NO-Shake in Chicago

These images were taken this summer from the bar at the top of the John Hancock Tower. Even after downing a very expensive martini  30 seconds is a little longer than I can hand hold a camera steady. 1.3 seconds with the Pentax anti-shake and the camera pressed against the table and the window glass is not too long.

Indian street photography gallery

A new street photo show at my just unveiled Smugmug redesign. The new Pile of Prints gallery is getting rave reviews. For the first time I feel like I'm able to bring something of my old If Monks had Macs CD-ROM design skills to my photo galleries. The new Smugmug rocks! Visit:

Our 3-week bike festival has begun. Yes, I took pictures while riding naked thru downtown Portland Saturday night but you don't get to them here. Really, this was better and it was warmer. Architect Rick Potestio gave us a heartfelt tour  of our fascist architectural heritage. I learned that the style could be warm and inviting, rather than brutal and cold.

May 1st, international workers day in Portland, Oregon. (just 30 days late). Glad to have finished a big project with my India pictures and be back (in black & white). The Hispanic community had a strong presence in this year's march that these pictures highlight. There were many other groups participating.

Anyone know anything about Google+ image optimization policy? I got a notice that I should be glad that they had optimized my upload of the Hispanic dancer -- Comparing   the picture online to what I uploaded it seems they "lightened" his face. Don't know how I feel about this... As it was I believe I probably lightened all the Hispanics faces because I was experimenting with a very high contrast black & white look. However, G+ doing this on auto-filter seems potentially troubling...

Colonial Sunset - If you see this, Alycia, this one's for you, or at least I thought of all your beautiful images when I took it from the balcony of the Hotel Isabel on the penultimate night of my just completed trip to Mexico. Now that my taxes are done, I'll post a few more in the upcoming days. +Alycia Miller

A portrait of a radical bicyclist whose back up after a recent fall from my new Pedalpalooza photo essay distilled from Portland's 3+ week bicycle festival.

[Warning, some very "artistic" nudity in a couple pictures of the big naked bicycle ride]

I'm posting 2 of pics from Occupy Portland as an expression of solidarity with my friends in Istanbul. You are so brave. My crazy dream is that your young religiously conservative friends will join you in a peaceful march through the streets not because they share all your goals, but because they love their more secular friends and because they love Ataturk, not Erdogan.

May God give you the strength to keep Ataturk's vision of a secular democratic Turkey with a separation between religion and state, alive.

While I was in India Google gave me a free upgrade to Silver Efex Pro 2. I tried it out last night and I can't decide if I'm going too fast--having too much fun eliminating the mid-tones. Does this make anyone else want to cry, enough?
