WomenTechmakers campaign in Georgia has been striving to increase and empower participation of girls and women in technologies.

WomenTechmakers Tbilisi 2017 will aim at empowering girls and women in the field of IT.
This particular project will stem to reach following goals:
 Raise awareness about the career opportunities in the field of technologies amongst Georgian girls.
 Recognize and expose successful female engineers and tech entrepreneurs of Georgia.
 Equip Georgian girls with a practical hands-on knowledge in software engineering.
 Empower and inspire girls with tech and leadership sessions.
 Create a mentor-mentee network of girls and women who are interested in the field of

In order to do so the two-day event will feature two main components:
1 st day - Speaker Sessions: Inspirational keynotes, tech talks and panel discussions will be open for a broader public and host at least 150 individuals at the conference hall of Fabrika.

The main messages delivered during these session will be answering following questions:
(i) Finding your own path, choosing career or passion and being a young impactful
leader in today’s world;
(ii) Knowledge as a super-power : advancing oneself with the modern tools available,
including digital online courses;
(iii) Being a WomenTechmaker: how to be a part of the most evolving and highly
demanded field (2 ignite talks and 1 panel session);
(iv) Technologies for Social Good – how can our knowledge in technologies be used for social transformation, real examples and lessons learned.

Sessions will bring together both female and male speakers. Emphasizes will be brought on showcasing successful Georgian women in technologies. In between of the sessions, inspirational TED talks and videos will be shown. The organizers will aim at showcasing those Georgian and foreigner female engineers and entrepreneurs who have made a difference (such as Ada Lovelace, Margaret Hamilton etc) or are currently working in big companies such as Google and Facebook. Even though the name of the event reads has gender focus, during the speaker session’s participation of boys and men will be as well encouraged. Because we believe it takes joint forces of both genders to be part of the dialogue and empower young girls and women.

2nd day - Hands-on Workshop: Being inspired by the speakers’ sessions, 80 girls aged 14-16, will have an opportunity to dive into some basics of computer engineering. The main aim of the workshop is to show girls how fun and simple working with codes can be.
The workshop will use the programming language called Scratch and follow the principles set out by the MIT university. Scratch is a free programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations. This program is
mostly used for educational purposes with the youth aged 8-16. The workshop will be led by Salome Vakhtangadze, a very prominent Georgian software engineer who has worked at Google New York office for more than 5 years.

40 mentors will be recruited from relevant universities, IT companies and other institutions.
Prior to the workshop the mentors will go through a pre-workshop orientation session.
At the end of the workshop a mentor-mentee network will be created online with 80 mentees and 40 mentors. This connection will serve the purpose of information sharing and counseling.
