Google Testing In-Store Conversions Tied to AdWords Ads: Jessica Lee reports Search Engine Watch that in February a Google representative @Covario's INFLECTIONPoint 2014 suggested this was coming. From her write up of one of the sessions:

But there’s still a ways to go when it comes to measuring the value of certain actions. In-store purchases are one conversion point that Burke said Google is working hard towards finding ways to attribute which actions drove that purchase, and, he said, they’ve started experimenting with Web history and geo-location to begin to get an understanding of that.

How do you define SEM or search engine marketing? Good debate among pundits ignited by Search Engine Watch article. 
Early on, search engine marketing (SEM) was originally defined as the umbrella under which both paid and organic search would fall. Over the years, however, "search engine marketing" has come to mean different things, depending on who you ask.

“... Online video consumption has overtaken that historical media buy and will continue. Even platforms such as Twitter offer unique social media video advertising that never existed previously. Companies that have relied on traditional television media to reach consumers to create awareness for brands, products or companies, must have a digital video strategy if they are to survive in the new era of digital media consumption.”
