My Magical Reality: The Strange Little Door.
(In which I find something living in the walls).

There's a golden vintage light that permeates the halls of the Edgefield hotel. Between the strange artwork and architecture, you expect ghosts to come wandering down the halls in the middle of the day.

But this was night, and the Bizarro Con banquet was in full swing in the grand ball room down the hall. My friend Mike Roth and I were looking at some of the odd artwork when my editor Ross Lockhart offered to take photos of us against the wall...

I’m asking you to dig deep and help someone you don’t know. Help Laramore Black, or help someone of your own choosing, where just a few well placed dollars could make all the difference in the world.

I have fantastic news to announce:

I did a live reading of my short story, "I Only Am Escaped Alone to Tell Thee," from Ross E. Lockhart's The Book of Cthulhu II at Bizarro Con this past November. Ross enjoyed the reading so much that he asked me to record a podcast version to release for everyone's enjoyment. Not only is the narration now live The Book of Cthulhu website, but I just found out that the story has been accepted for publication at The Drabblecast later this month.

Congratulations to the other winners and finalists! I'm excited to read your stories.

"Relax Everyone – we've got it handled!" said the two Mayans in line at Barnes and Noble. They had picked up the over-sized MAYAN CALENDAR 2013 and were standing in front of me with some Colombian roast, and books that must have been on their Christmas list.

"Sorry we're late on this," said the other, "but this one goes to March 2014, so there's plenty of time next year if last-minute shopping gets in our way again."

The monthly images of obsidian and bone are breathtakingly beautiful, but I do pray that next year's Mayan calendar has kittens on it.
