If you are looking for a motivational presentation on Universal Design for Learning by a faculty member who has taught herself to improve the accessibility of her courses, then next Tuesday's ITC Webinar is just the ticket. The LCCC Wyoming Master Distance Educator for 2012 (ahem, me), will be presenting a session called "Universal Design in Practice: Yes, you can teach yourself to design accessible courses!"

Yesterday's ITC eLearning session on Universal Design for Learning included great discussion. So much, in fact, that I didn't have a chance to show attendees the wonderful collection of resources hosted by my alma mater, Colorado State University.

I will be presenting on universal design for learning at February's ITC eLearning conference, and I am so glad to have found this video, because it embodies the spirit of appreciating difference that I hope to convey in my presentation.

Cool creative writing idea.

Okay, I'm going to stop at 40 cartoons for students to browse and choose from ... http://writingwithaesop.blogspot.com/search/label/Cartoons - tomorrow I need to write an essay prompt to go with this assignment (asking about why a cartoon is funny is a VERY good kind of prompt in my experience), along with a sample essay or two. I really hope the students will like this - I've struggled a lot in the past with this particular aspect of my Myth-Folklore class; every week the students have the option of writing a creative story retelling (that works great; they write well and they write a lot for that assignment) and/or a brief essay (300-1000 words, and plenty of people write exactly 301 words, believe me - so I know they are not happy campers with the writing options I had offered in the past, which were very much traditional essay assignments). So, this spring I'm going to have a new set of writing- and language-related essay options for this semester, and this cartoon-based option is one that I think/hope is going to be very popular. Plus, it is one they can repeat ad infinitum (well, every week if they want, until the end of the semester). I am already so curious to see which cartoons will get their attention! :-)
