For an immigrant it is a little weird that America has a "World Cup" and it is just American teams (Canadians don't really count except in the NHL).
Turn on any channel and you will hear about the biggest sporting event in human history
, in reference to the Super Bowl. The largest global TV audience
of the year (though that might just be the ad men/women talking). All the media around us creates the illusion that there is nothing bigger in the world. Not true. See below.
This graph is probably not unfair because it plots real world sporting events vs. one that only Americans (and only roughly less than half at that) care about. But perhaps it is fair because we see the Super Bowl as a "global massive magnificent event of insane proportions". : )
If nothing else, perhaps the graph illustrates what the audience size might be if non-americans cared about it! #gobroncos
