The Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee held a hearing on House Bill 2611 today, a bill that would amend the long-standing “50% Rule” regarding the amount of time an owner dentist must be in a satellite practice during its time of operation.  The bill would amend that nearly seventy-year-old law by requiring that an owner dentist be in a satellite practice twenty-percent of the time in which dentistry is practiced.

Over-prescribing controlled narcotics is a problem. Dentists can help by writing a prescription for an appropriate amount of pain medication. Kansas Dental Board President Glenn Hemberger has advice for dentists so they don't become an enabler for a drug addiction.

House Bill 2611, a bill that amends the long-standing “50% Rule” regarding the amount of time an owner dentist must be in a satellite practice during its time of operation, passed the full Senate today by a vote of 40-0.  The bill had been placed on the Consent Calendar and, without objection, automatically moved to a vote by the full Senate after three days.  The bill would amend that nearly seventy-year-old law by requiring that an owner dentist be in a satellite practice twenty-percent of the time in which patients are being treated.  The bill now advances to the Governor.

We know that many of you are dental bloggers. Maybe you use your blog to promote oral health with your patients or even to share interests or hobbies.  You’ve got great content, your writing is spectacular, but the one thing you lack is good images.  Maybe you’ve got a few photographs from a vacation or that  you’ve taken in your practice (with permission to use of course), but I’m certain at least one of you have said to yourself, “I wish I had a good image for this blog post.”

Looking for something to do on your snow day? Why not work in some oral health education. We've got activity sheets, coloring pages and more you can print and share with your kids. And since you won't be in a rush, it should be easy to brush 2min2x.
