I have always thought about all the things we put in our bodies. Take for example ibuprofen. When I have a backache, I take Advil, and it improves. Does anyone know the side effects of ibuprofen? Advil works by stopping a chemical in the body called cyclooxygenase. This them prevents inflammatory chemicals from being produced, thereby helping the inflammation from the back strain causing the pain. Advil is in the same family as aspirin and aspirin was originally derived from the bark of a tree. Pretty cool!

What is Retinol?

Retinol is a very interesting chemical. It has a chemical structure very close to vitamin A. It's kissing cousin is Retin A. Just like you can buy stripper at the hardware store to remove the finish on your dining room table....Retinol and Retin A do the same thing. They remove the old layer of skin on top. This does some very interesting things. It causes the skin cells to grow new skin, AND INCREASES THE AMOUNT OF COLLAGEN! When they do these things, these chemicals improve the texture of skin. It's like removing the old layers of wax on that old dining table. So skin is smoother and more supple!

At Athrè Facial Plastics, our focus is not just on facial plastic surgery.

You have probably heard the quote, “the eyes are the window to the soul.” Several recent studies by Yale University have proven that the concept of self is linked to the eyes in children and adults. It is also interesting to note that the area of the brain responsible for the concept of self awareness is located right behind the eyes.

Therefore, it is not surprising that eye surgery is one of the most common cosmetic procedures.

One of the most common complaints when patient’s desire facial rejuvenation is the tired look of the eyes. This can be due to some multiple things. One of them being the falling of the brows. If this condition is mild, this can be repaired with Botox. Botox can give a temporary browlift that lasts up to 3 months. The lift can be very natural. If the droopiness of the brow is more severe a browlift might be required. This is a simple outpatient procedure taking less than 1-1/2 hours. This procedure has one of the highest satisfaction indexes of any cosmetic procedure. If done well, it is natural and really opens up the eyes.
