Public Accountability: Thursday

Nothing special going on today, really, just grading to get off my desk, a new unit to begin in class and swimming in the evening.

By the by, yesterday's pot roast was fantastic! The Munchkin is now a big fan and I'm glad we had leftovers. :-)

mmm. pot roast. Sounds SO much better than tofu-and-random-veggies-on-the-verge-of-meltdown-in-the-back-of-the-fridge-melange, which is what we're having tonight.

With enough ginger and soy sauce everything tastes good!

Public Accountability: Early Start

Good news / bad news. Good news: Tutu has learned to roll over! Bad news: only from her back to her stomach. Worse news: she does this throughout the night, waking and panicking when she can't flip back over. Consequence: Daddy and Mommy got only broken bits of sleep last night, and today started at 4:30.

A.M. Do you know how dark and cold it is at 4:30 in the morning?

Today is a domestic focus with only some compositions to score for my online course. Otherwise it's laundry (in progress), taxiing Ma Fleur to and from work so I can run some errands (complete) and Mémé coming for dinner. (Mémé is Munchkin's paternal grandmother, but she adores Tutu and is the closet thing we have to family or some kind of support network.) Dinner prep is in-progress as the chicken thaws. We're trying some homemade Genetal Tso's chicken tonight.

Oh, "Beans": Tutu has begun experimenting with solid food. She's five months old, already! It's not really eating; she mooshes it around her mouth and accidentally swallows some. But she's getting better all the time!

Hi. My weekend was pretty full, so it didn't feel like much of a break. How was yours?

We had one who hated to be put on his stomach, and who beat the standard for rolling from front to back by a month.

I wish I could send some of his juju.

Public Accountability: Bullet Journal Try-Out

So, yesterday, I bit the bullet and switched over to a bullet journal, since +Bliss Morgan introduced me to it. The set up took me more than hour, but I feel so much more on top of things. It will take me a while to get used to the annotation system, but that's fine. I have a feeling that I'm going to be keeping this, and probably migrating it to a different journal in a while; I have a lot of lists. >.>

Today is the first part of my students' first unit evaluation. It's just a reading activity, but next week is when the rubber really hits the road with their first conversations (no scripts! Random partners!) and written compositions. I'm a little leery of the latter because the first compositions came in from my online class earlier this week and many of them screwed up the formatting. The formatting. That I gave them explicit instructions about. :: sigh :: So, the face-to-face courses are getting some gentle reminders to prevent that.

Right, time to start knocking out this long list today. How's your Thursday looking? Mine needs coffee...

Morning, cher carcajou. My alarm just went off, but I was ready to wake up. Bodes well, methinks.

Public Accountability: Sick

Not me, thankfully, but Tutu has been congested for a week now, so it's time to take her to the doctor this afternoon. :-(

In the meantime, my online course is today's professional focus. At least I have some coffee this morning to get things going.

Hi! How was your weekend?

My weekend involved sleeping a lot, and then getting some things done. I needed the sleep.

Public Accountability: Tutu Double-Shot

Tutu has been under the weather for so long that I haven't been able to get decent pictures. But today she's doing awesome, so have some smiling baby! (She freakin' loves her Excersaucer, lately.)

I already have most of my domestic to-do list complete. Coffee and breakfast? Check. Pot roast is in the slow cooker, so check. Bottles are prepared, too, and just waiting to go upstairs. And I changed my mind about the meatballs, lacking the spinach I usually put in, so I used my ground turkey for a meatloaf, instead, which is currently in the oven.

The Munchkin's school closed today due to "adverse weather conditions" ( :: cough :: dusting of snow :: cough ::), so we're having the meatloaf for lunch and I have some back up with the baby today.

-- Suddenly, I have a cat in my lap. Winter makes my normally sociable kitty cuddly, and baby jealousy makes her clingy. There's a constant feline presence but that's okay. She's so soft!

And there's The Fussy because we're a) done in the Excersaucer, b) need a fresh diaper, c) hungry or, probably, d) all of the above.

Allons-y!

Public Accountability: 0 dark 30

Tutu slept a little better, but still woke in the wee hours. That's less of a big deal today because we get up Rey early so we can drop her at day care before work. (I have to say: I live her daycare. It's the same one that the Munchkin went to, with the same people and they are awesome.)

Today my face-to-face students have the first conversations. (There's a graded one every unit.) Anxiety levels seem relatively low so far, but the first one is always a doozy. This is the price of innovative instruction: students feel a little rudderless at first. But it's totally worth it.

Otherwise, I have a batch of online course grading to do. And then a swim to finish off the day.

Ooh! Our new crockpot should arrive. We have a pot roast planned for tomorrow. Yum!

Public Accountability: Late Start

Tutu mercifully let me sleep in until 7:00 this morning, which is a nice way to start a Friday, but also polite because she was up at 4:00 am., too.

>.>

So, it's been a kind of slow start to the morning: changing, feeding, changing again, breakfast, coffee, shower, exercise rolling over (her, not me, though I'm down on the floor, too.) And, general baby silliness (see below: "I have feet and a pretty hat!")

There's a lot of non-professional stuff to do today, mostly laundry and planning for some RPG fun. I have ranting to do about some grognards over on FB, but that's a whole other post and I love my Listmakers here on G+ for being an audience for my personal and professional frustrations in this matter.

Meanwhile, there's laundry to be done and some updating of course procedures. You know, the usual.

Hi! How're you? What do you have planned for the weekend?

Public Accountability: Midweek Home Edition

Today is a balance of domestic and professional tasks. I have a research paper abstract due at the end of the week, laundry to square away, a sick baby to tend and I'm anticipating some annoyances from work email about the fall semester's scheduling.

(Annoyances being that my previous communications about my desired teaching schedule have been ignored or forgotten, but in turn I was accused of not clearly communicating them. I get that my admins are busy profs themselves, and that some juggling amongst several parties needs to happen for a special course I requested. But I've requested it twice, and once was in August. August. I've basically learned that I need to send an email at the beginning of each semester explicitly telling my admins my desired schedule for the NEXT semester.)

/vent

I'm going to go sort laundry to burn that frustration off.

Today, instead of a Tutu picture, you get a Little Noah picture. This is me and my brother, Quinn, playing in my dad's back yard. I think I'm about five or six. Dad was working on a sidecar for his motorcycle at the time, but we thought it made a much cooler spaceship.

Public Accountability: Lull?

Today feels less busy than many before.

-- And that's because I forgot my daily "Update the online course" task. It's a module several weeks from now, but I like to work as far ahead as possible.

:: adds to list ::

Right, so, now we're properly full. :: swigs coffee :: Let's get this done.

(No Tutu pics today. Our little girl has her first cold. 'S so wonderful that despite the runny nose and sore throat and general icky-ness, she always tries to smile anyway. But really good moments are few.)

There are tons of electric ones. Ma Fleur has ordered a batch that should arrive tomorrow. But, I'm not so hopeful because we tried one off the shelf and it was totally weak-sauce. Like, good for a 1 month-old with a little runny nose. Tutu is congested and it requires no small amount of suction force to pull the mucus from her nostrils. (Saline spray helps loosen it, but still, I've had milkshakes that were easier to pull.)

Still, we'd like to have one so it's easier and so we can give one to the day care folks. (Who are awesome but are understandably reticent to, you know, suck snot from a baby's nose.)
