Public Accountability: Weekend Edition

All my yard work is done, so I'm halfway though. But I thought today's list was too pretty not to share.

Yeah, one of my friends did that. Once.

If I'm going to give him gummi bears, I get 4 out of the bulk bin. He can't hurt himself with a mere 4 gummi bears.

"The gay agenda, everybody"

Tumblr is the best kind of evil.

If this is the true "Gay Agenda" that people keep talking about, then I'm sold.

Public Accountability: ... That Should Do It

Halfway through my list-making this morning, I kinda ran out of stuff for a minute. Then I remembered my little research stack and voilà! A decent list to keep myself ahead of the game.

This morning, my swimming laps are already complete (the pool's only open 6-8). I stayed with the same 450 meter mixed medley as Wednesday but there was less panting this time! #progress

The baby shower yesterday afternoon was a fantastic success. I want to post a picture of the best party favors (little mesh bags of animal crackers with paper napkin "diapers.") But for some reason G+ doesn't see it in my photos... weird. For the curious, you can see it on FB.

Also in baby news, our due date has been moved up from the 19th of September to the 5th. Since Ma Fleur has gestational diabetes, Kaiser usually like to induce in the 38th week. (That is, if Tutu hasn't arrived on her own; the Munchkin came on week 35.)

Oh my god.

Public Accountability: Addams

Because it's Wednesday, obviously. :-D

Today is well begun with 450 meters in the new KSU lap pool. It's been years (like 20 of 'em) since I've swim seriously. I'm happy to say my body still takes to the water like a fish (diving into a pool makes me instantly happy) and I still remember all the technique I learned in various swim teams. -- But man, my lungs hurt. Smoking is bad, kiddos. Don't start. And keep up your exercise. :: waves cane like a crotchety old man :: And get off my lawn!

Ahem.

Anyway, swimming done, now it's time to brew some coffee, grab some breakfast and get cranking on prep for the fall semester!

Aw, ya just need to get your cardio up the same way you do when mountain biking season opens. Then, you will be just fine.

I am thankful you are NOT a smoker anymore. Many kisses for my Noah. Muwah!

Public Accountability: Master Plan

No research today because I'm at home waiting on an electrician. Instead: prep for next semester! I'm teaching four classes and they each need their own syllabus update and a multitude of ports from previous iterations in CMS. AMST 3710, my film course, needs to be built from scratch.

These lists are intimidating, but you eat an elephant one bite at a time.

Status update. Today's focus is FREN 1001. The syllabus is updated, along with a rocking new schedule and now I'm on to updating the lessons.

That moment when...

A colleague emails you out of the blue, asking for copies of all of your unit tests -- because she's a huge fan of that kind of testing* and wants to the whole Spanish program to adopt it.

:-D

Public Accountability: "Time Off"

It's a popular myth that teaching is awesome because you get so much vacation time.

Pff. Teaching is awesome because you get to make a positive change in your students' lives nearly every day. And you do that by working when school isn't in session.

I'm just fortunate enough that my work involves watching movies. :-)

From a French 2 final exam:

"The the histories of the American and French national celebrations are different because the French executed their king in order to gain independence and we gained our independence after Christopher Columbus found our flag after the war. It was similar because we both gained independence in the same month, July. Also we have marches and parades like the French."

Military history gets a lot more fun when you picture it as a big game of Calvinball....

Introduction
That kid who wrote a novel in high school? You played Transformers with in California? Was on your soccer team and your swim team? The guy who got kicked out of the JMU open mic for an entire set of great songs that happened to include the f-word? Your twittery French teacher at Pitt or Penn State? That guy with the really cool t-shirts and the goatee from Dragon*Con?

Congrats, you found him.
