Public Accountability: Short Week

Tomorrow is the observed holiday at KSU for the 4th, so today's my last one in the office this week. Time to get all the grading done and leave myself a clear desk for Monday morning.

Picture from New Zealand, one of my dream travel destinations.

Awesome students are awesome.

I'm overseeing some honors work by a student taking off to Laval this July. He already gave me a little "thank you" present!

Public Accountability: Valley of Fire

Today's random background is from back home in Nevada. The Valley of Fire State Park is outside of Las Vegas, towards the north arm of Lake Mead.

Me, I have a metric ton of reading to get on, a little light grading and a unit of French class to teach. I have some nice chai maté this morning to see me through it. Later: I'm breaking out the coffee.

Update: email done, including turning down a risky promotion, prepping lesson plans and learning that the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel is being released simultaneously this August on Netflix and IMAX. Assignment for my film course? You betcha.

Public Accountability: Something New

The other day, I discovered the Chrome Extension "Momentum" (https://goo.gl/fDRhft). It's pretty spiffy, and at the very least, it's nice to be greeted with a beautiful picture, the time and weather when I open my web-browser.

To boot, it's got a nice to-do list. I don't know if I really want to move away from my hand-written lists, but list-making is easier with it.

So, yeah, I need to finish yesterday's grading and wrap up everything from the Germany trip today. Tomorrow is about running errands hither and yon, so there won't be much time in the office.

Public Accountability: Traction

I feel like I have a pretty good rhythm going this week, and I realized this morning on the way in that it's a short one due to the Independence Day weekend. Woo! (Friday, I'm taking the Munchkin caving. We haven't done that in a year.)

Today at work is a bunch of small bits and a nice sit-down with the department chair to round things out at the end of the day.

:: makes coffee ::

Let's do this thing.

Yay caving!

Currently wondering just how much of today's ESL orientation/PD will be relevant, because I realized it's been designed for external hires. And I am internal.

Public Accountability: Bumps in the Road

The Munchkin is off from camp this week, which means a week of him bumming around the house, mostly. For me, it means I don't have an hour-long hole in my mornings to drop him at camp.

-- Except when I need an hour to run home because I forgot to pack Ma Fleur's insulin for the day. Doh!

Ah well, c'est la vie. Insulin is delivered, I have coffee and now it's time to start grinding on my to-do list.

Allons-y!

GPOB (Gratuitous Picture of Baby)

The Munchkin got to see Tutu for the first time last night.

... Sounds like the start of a good fairy tale.

Public Accountability: Date Night

Well, a date with Tutu. And by "date," I mean some 3D / 4D imaging tonight. The Munchkin is coming; he's never seen a real-time image of his little sister! To boot, we'll have video of her as well as some spiffy three-dimensional renderings.

I'm a little excited.

But that's not until 7:30 tonight. In the meantime, there's stuff to do: shuttle, prep, grade. Allons-y!

Yay videos n such.

Ware the milestone stuff. Each kid is different, and some "helpful" books (dr spock for me) can leave one spinning in fear. Trust your gut, Papa. You and La Fleur got this, in spades.

Introduction
That kid who wrote a novel in high school? You played Transformers with in California? Was on your soccer team and your swim team? The guy who got kicked out of the JMU open mic for an entire set of great songs that happened to include the f-word? Your twittery French teacher at Pitt or Penn State? That guy with the really cool t-shirts and the goatee from Dragon*Con?

Congrats, you found him.
