Kinda ticked off at Google today. I had ordered a Chromecast device back on the 24th of July. By the 28th, I had gotten the email that it had shipped. A friend of mine got his on the 31st but still, on the UPS website, it said that I should receive it on the Aug 3rd. Aug 3rd came and went and I called UPS who told me I would have to talk to the shipper. Google then tells me in an email back that I needed to talk to the local post office. I talk to the post office and am told they never got the package only the electronic shipment information. I go back to UPS who then tells me to go back to Google. During this time I can see the UPS website which says the last place the package was at was in NJ. After a few more days Google actually tells me the package was delivered; but everything on the UPS site and the Post Office site said it still wasn't delivered (and there was no package at my door). I contact Google and tell them with proof from the two websites that the package still wasn't here. They then turn around and send me an email telling me it was still in transit and I needed to wait a few more days. I waited a few more days (at this point 18 days had passed since the package was shipped and 13 days since it was in NJ). Finally, I had had it with Google and asked what happened (By the way any time I called them directly I had to start the process over because they wouldn't transfer the issue that I had already opened). They then wanted consent to disable the device and then they would investigate with UPS and the Post office. Finally after my consent and another two days they say the package was lost and they would refund my money. To me this was an opportunity for Google to do some good customer service and to me they dropped the ball several times. I'm going to be going as Google-lite as I can for a while because they left a bad taste in my mouth.
Yes, but Google could have turned this situation into a pleasant one so easily. Certainly telling me the package was delivered when there was sure proof was just plain bad. To them try to tell me it's in transit (when someone from NJ could have walked to PA in the time I had already been waiting) again was just bad. Giving me a refund was the least they could do but they could have offered to send me another one with priority shipping but no what I was told if wanted to I could order another (which at this point would have been another 2 to 3 weeks before I would have seen it). By this point they've left such a bad feeling (and honestly made me mad) that yes I'm going to kinda give up the Google life for a while. I'm surely not a glint in their eye but posting this was the only way I could see to have my feelings echoed and let other people know how Google can behave.
