Facebook still faces doubts about mobile-ad prospects |-----> On the first anniversary of going public, Facebook still faces some analyst doubts about its ability to monetize its mobile base, which is considered key to the company's prospects. "How many mobile ads can you put into the mobile news feed before you start to irritate users?" BTIG Research analyst Richard Greenfield said. Facebook has increased its share of the U.S. mobile-ad market from zero to 13.3% since 2011, according to eMarketer, but the research group predicts a decline in that share to 11.5% in two years because of rising competition.

Please Give Me A 5-Star Review! --A recent New York Times article highlights the latest episode in the debate over online reviews: apparently Amazon is quietly cracking down on reviews it views as manipulative. Meanwhile Yelp openly uses an algorithmic approach to filter out questionable reviews. Significantly, the filtered reviews are not included when Yelp computes how many stars a business receives, or any other statistics.

Mobile shopping may be about to become a Thanksgiving Day fixture, with 28% of smartphone and tablet owners saying they'll be turning to their devices for that purpose on the holiday, according to a survey commissioned by Digitas. That's a nearly twofold increase compared with last year's figures. In e-commerce terms, however, three-quarters of those surveyed said it's still easier to shop via PC than by mobile. "It's a wake-up call to make sure that you are absolutely ready as a retailer and a brand to actually interact and engage with consumers via the mobile channel and the mobile devices," said Chia Chen, mobile lead at Digitas.

Facebook reveals how news feed content is determined: Facebook is seeking to dispel criticism by explaining the factors that go into deciding news feed placement for content. The social network says it aims to tailor feeds more precisely to individual users' interests, as reflected in what they viewed and liked in the past, while assigning lower priority to pages that generate a lot of user complaints.
