I've often thought central Asia would be a perfect land for adventure. It has empty wastes that Europe or China don't have. It's a crossroads of cultures, religion and trade, but sparse enough that adventurers can make a mark there.

I don't know why games tend to focus primarily on either (pseudo)Europe or (pseudo)China/Japan. It's the bit in between that's most interesting. But also the least known, which is probably the biggest reason it's so unused.

Some good sourcebooks on this area would be nice. And it can work in all sorts of time periods. The time of the Mongols, with the silk road open and technology and trade flowing between Europe and China is the most natural, but I've also once read an interesting article about the area between the Roman Empire and China in Roman times (and possible contact between the two super powers). There's the Viking age when Vikings came down the Volga to trade with Byzantium and Persia, and settled the Rus princedoms.

I have finally, finally, cleaned up my insane browser session, because having 200 Chrome tabs open really eats up my memory. Back to putting all of that stuff in bookmarks, where it's probably easier to find than in the middle of 200 tabs that are too small to read their title. I can finally see part of the first letter of the titles again. Not quite there yet, but it's an important first step.

Politics in Middle Earth.

(Should this go in my Geek, Politics or Funny collection? I never know.)

We're watching Marco Polo on Netflix, and of course I need to check Wikipedia because I need to know how accurate it is and of course simply because history is cool.

All in all, learned tons of cool stuff about Kublai Khan, the Mongol civil war, the various dynasties, the use of war machines and early gun powder, and more. But I also get the distinct impression that different pages on Wikipedia contradict each other in numerous details. In one, Jia Sidao is incompetent, in the other he does everything. In one, Ariq was Khagan and Kublai the challenger, in another it's the other way around.

Apparently my parties suck.

In CK2 I'm holding a feast, and even my own husband refuses the invitation!

The many faces of Donald Trump. By one of the older classes at Karsten's school.

(No idea if this should be in the Politics or Parenting collection.)
