"Everyone can understand math" was one of the founding mottos of our company - first codified almost 25 years ago! It has been a guiding principle behind our math programs for a quarter century.
✅Now new research, this time out of Stanford, confirms this truth: “The idea that some of us are ‘math people’ and some are not is a myth that pervades Western society,” Jo Boaler, a professor of math education at Stanford University, writes in a revealing new study. “This damaging idea has been challenged in recent years by neuroscience showing that mathematics is a subject, like all others, that is learned through hard work and practice.”

🛑Parents - HOW DO YOU INSTILL A LOVE OF READING - OVER THE SUMMER? [PART 2] 🛑
✔️"One of the things I hit hard in this book is the idea of creating a sense in the child that this is what we value in our family. I think a lot of parents don't appreciate what a powerful message that can be for kids — like the things that are on your wall, the rules you set in your household, who parents talk about as the people they respect.

You should model reading, make reading pleasurable, read aloud to your kid in situations that are warm and create positive associations. But also setting a tone where our family is one where we like to learn new things. We like to learn about the world, and a big part of that is reading."

🛑Parents - HOW DO YOU INSTILL A LOVE OF READING - OVER THE SUMMER?🛑
Instilling a love of reading in your child is probably one of the best things you can ever do for him or her "because research suggests that kids who read for pleasure do better in school and in life."
✔️The challenge: reading during the summer
My recommendation is, if you really want your child to choose reading, there are 2 strategies you can use.
1️⃣ One is, you can look at environments that are already impoverished environments, where there's not much to do, and put books there — like the car, like the bathroom. My wife's a teacher, and she tells parents all the time: Put books in your child's bathroom. And it's amazing how much kids will read when there are books in the bathroom.
2️⃣The other thing you can do — and I hate to put it this way — is impoverish the environment your child is in. And that means restricting other things they can do. It's not really coercing reading. Restricting screen time is an obvious version of that.

📅"Common Sense Tips To Keep Your Child's Brain Thriving Over The Summer"📅
1️⃣Get your kids to read
According to Crerar, keeping up a daily reading routine is a great way to exercise children's brains during the long summer break.
2️⃣ Finding a book series is another way to get kids to read, as well as letting them choose the book.
3️⃣ Brush up on French (w/ graphic novels or a French movie once per week).
4️⃣ Math in day-to-day life - at grocery stores and restaurants - keep math alive. Use budgets and money to estimate what you can afford to buy etc. Make it a fun exercise! Baking is another way to keep numbers alive over the summer!

🔻🔻How To Read Your Child's REPORT CARD Constructively🔻🔻
As the year closes and report cards arrive, here's what to do:
✅ 1. Start by reading your child’s report quietly on your own. Note their achievements – there’s generally an area where they’re doing well – and think about the areas where you believe improvement is possible.
✅2. Next, ask your child to assess themselves. "Focus more on effort than achievement. They can grow their effort."
✅3. Finally, set goals together. How can your child turn this around? What steps can be taken? E.g. do not sit with friends who distract them or perhaps enroll in a supplementary tutoring program to help bolster their skills and confidence?

👉👉Parents, did you know that the long 2-month summer holiday break is so concerning to many education policy makers, that some schools are already implementing "balanced school calendars" - spreading time off throughout the year - to avoid learning loss from a sustained 2-month break?✅ You can easily avoid this loss by keeping your child's brain engaged throughout the summer - with fun educational activities and/or quality summer tutoring programs!

Will your child lose 1 month of learning this summer? That's the average summer learning loss. This equates to 1 YEAR out of 12 years of schooling just "relearning" what was already taught! Stop the summer slide with one of our quality summer tutoring programs - & watch your child LEAP ahead next year!
