I don't usually do composites, but I thought I would try one. The original photo was taken in the stumpery at the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden in Federal Way, WA

The biggest problem I see with this image is one caused by nature. There are no clouds to add visual interest to the photo. I could go back and add the clouds, but that would not be the scene I saw while eating dinner in southern France.

Thanks to Brian Matiash for reminding me look at the details. This image wasn't there until I focused.

Thanks Gerald. One of the things I've done with luminosity masking.

Amateur photographer who just keeps trying to learn more
Introduction
What's to say, I was born in Lodi, CA (infamous because of a song by Creedence Clearwater), and moved away as soon as I graduated from high school and never looked back. I joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War and guarded the back door against those nasty Soviets from the mountains of Bavaria as a Russian linguist. I graduated from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Russian studies and started a Master's degree at the University of Washington in East European Studies before returning to the Air Force as an Intelligence Officer. In 15 years in the Air Force I lived in Europe twice. After the Air Force I worked for the military as a civilian for a few years before getting a better paying job with a defense contractor. After 40 years working in the military-industrial complex I retired to follow pursuits that more fit my personality and moral code--volunteering in gardens, working on model trains, hiking in the great Pacific Northwest and photographing the world around me.

My partner of 19+ years and I will marry in August 2013 now that the state of Washington has seen fit to deem us equal to other married couples.

There are thousands of stories between the lines in the above. Most of them I can't tell because of my security clearance and some of them are probably not interesting to 99% of the people who read this far.

As always the service department was quick and thorough. I appreciate that type of service and long term commitment from a dealer.

Takes Mexican cuisine to a new level. The food quality has been spot on every time we have been there. Friendly, helpful staff. Good bar with a well stocked back bar and a bartender who knows how to make drinks.

Tacoma's small independent theater for wonderful movies that are not going to make it to the "big screen" at major movie houses. This is the place to go for indie films in Tacoma.

The place to go for your wine and hard liquor needs. The prices are reasonable and they have great sales. Did I mention the wine and beer tastings? We make the drive to Seattle just to shop at Esquin.

Best Dim Sum in the area. Lines can be long, but if you get there early and get your name on the waiting list, you will have a wonderful experience.

Mitzel's is s typical chain restaurant designed to get food to the family quickly. The service is good and the staff friendly, but the food is only so-so. If you need a place for a meeting, they have three rooms that will accommodate you.
