Big Island Candies was established in 1977 to manufacture and market fine quality macadamia nut candies and cookies using 100 percent Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, island eggs, real butter and high-grade chocolate. Since its founding, Big Island Candies has continuously introduced new and imaginative products that “wow” both the eyes and taste buds of its growing legion of fans.

Yeah it's a bit of a tourist destination and tad expensive but every time we come to Hilo we gotta get some of the best chocolate cookies.

There is one confectionery place to stop at when in Hilo that anyone can appreciate. Big Island candies lets you sample their treat of the day right at the door before the cool air conditioning washes away the tropical humidity. They are famous for the chocolate dipped shortbread, but my favorite is the Crunchies chocolate slab. Year round, they have seasonal treats that come and go, popular ones may come back so be sure to buy something you like so they know to have it again! During "work hours" you can see the factory in full swing through large glass windows. The factory seems state of the art, clean, and professional. The staff is friendly and you can even collect stamps which can be redeemed for items either on your first visit or your next visit! The treats aren't cheap, but your family and friends are worth more than supermarket chocolate, that's why you're buying something for them, so get them a delicacy they will appreciate, and box for yourself as well!

I came here for a marathon, and had to stop by to get my friend some of their shortbread cookies. That was pretty much the only thing they wanted, and was very adamant about getting some, because they are so delicious.

Tourist trap. Dead giveaway is the parking lot which has monster big spots for the tourist busses. File them in, get them out. Completely contrasts with non-touristy, non-gimmicky places like Hilo Coffee Mill. I don't like being treated like cattle. Not coming back.
