Relief Society General President
Introduction
Linda K. Burton was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was studying elementary education at the University of Utah when she met Craig P. Burton. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple and are the parents of one son and five daughters and are grandparents to nineteen.

Before her call as the 16th Relief Society general president, she served for a short time as a member of the Relief Society and Primary general boards. As a teenager she lived in New Zealand for three years while her father presided over the New Zealand South Mission. Recently she served with her husband as he presided over the Korea Seoul West Mission. She has been blessed to serve in various callings in Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, and Sunday School.

Sister Burton loves walking with her husband, making family memories, and studying the scriptures. She loves the scripture found in 2 Nephi 5:27: “And it came to pass that we lived after the manner of happiness.” It is her testimony that true happiness comes by living the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This morning I woke up thinking of my sisters in the gospel who worry so much about being perfect, right now. Our Savior does not expect us to be perfect “right now.” He loves each one of us and desires us to look to Him, and follow Him, so we can become the people He needs us to become, step by step, one drop of oil in our lamps at a time. The peace we seek within ourselves comes as we follow Jesus Christ and look to Him as the example as we strive to live a life of unselfish service as He did.

As a young mother of six children, I remember the "ah-ha" moment I had when I heard President Ezra Taft Benson say, "There is an old saying that states: It is better to prepare and prevent than it is to repair and repent." When I read that statement again in the recent Relief Society lesson 17, "Keeping the Law of Chastity," it confirmed to my heart the gratitude I feel for prophets, seers, and revelators in our day.  His words are as relevant and pertinent in our day as they were 30 years ago, if not more so.

With that thought in mind, I couldn't help myself from sharing the following video I'm hoping our own children will use in their homes to teach our precious grandchildren to "prepare and prevent" as it relates to pornography as well as keeping the law of chastity. I share it in love, hoping it will help us in our sacred roles and responsibilities in our homes, in our Church callings, and in our service to our communities.

We received so much helpful, relevant feedback from so many of you! Thank you for responding to my post and being willing to be so candid and real in your responses. This will be so helpful to us as we work together now to write an article for the magazines about progressing from Young Women into Relief Society.

Our presidency is working with the Young Women general presidency to create an article in an upcoming Ensign and Liahona regarding the progression of young women into Relief Society.

We’d love to know your thoughts! How was it for you as a young woman to progress from Young Women to Relief Society? How was it for you as parents? Young Women and Relief Society leaders? Priesthood leaders? Fellow Relief Society sisters? What makes you young women most excited or hesitant about making this transition?

We would sincerely love to hear your candid, genuine thoughts to guide us in our preparations.

We had the great privilege last month to meet the BYU women’s volleyball players and coaches. What a fabulous season they had! And what inspiring individuals they are. Their spirits and examples are just as impressive as their height and skills! Who inspires you? #LDSwomen   #LDShistory   #ShareGoodness

I am preparing for a presentation and am interested in learning from you to guide me in my preparations.

• What are you doing to keep family history alive in your families and homes?
• What traditions do you have that come from your ancestors?
• What have you done in your families and homes to help your posterity learn from and stay connected to their family?
• What are some of the small and simple ways you add meaning to the daily routines of life as a result of the influence of family history?
• How do you connect your family to the spirit of Elijah?

I would love to hear your ideas. Please respond below or email me at reliefsociety@ldschurch.org.

Getting together with my daughters and granddaughters for the general women's session has become one of our favorite new traditions. I hope you were as inspired and motivated as we were by the meeting. Not only did we feel inspired by the spoken word of my beloved friends, Sisters Rosemary Wixom, Linda Reeves, and Carol McConkie, but we were most inspired by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf’s message. The choir was also just beautiful and the videos touching and relevant.

I watched with great interest how many lives were influenced for good by one caring woman in this video. It reminded me of the influence of my own darling daughters and also a line from that familiar hymn that says, "The errand of angels is given to women; and this is a gift that, as sisters, we claim: to do whatsoever is gentle and human, to cheer and to bless in humanity's name." I'm hoping sisters throughout the Church saw themselves as that sweet sister who was surprised how many lives she had blessed by doing small and simple things to reach out to cheer and to bless others.

Was there a particular message, video, or song that touched your heart?

Last week, I had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at the L.A. Dodgers' game. I never saw this coming when I accepted this calling! What a fun opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, practice pitching, and exercise a little faith taking on this challenge.

When have you demonstrated faith and courage to try something new in your calling?

As you can imagine, there are many days that I feel the weight of my calling. During such times, I draw strength from those steadfast women who have served before me, including the extraordinary Emma Smith. How I admire her strength and am inspired by her consistent, selfless service, her commitment, and her testimony! Who inspires you?
