Did you know... Flamingos are the only birds that eat upside down? They walk in shallow water and stir up the bottom with their long legs.
The flamingo then scoops up a mouthful of water, closes its mouth and uses its tongue to force the water through comb-like extensions on the beak to filter out crustaceans, worms, algae, insects and fish.

Flower festival will be held from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th SEPTEMBER
at Fernkloof Nature Reserve, Fir Avenue , Hermanus.
Follow the banners from the Main Road.
This year's theme will be Fynbos Creatures. Exhibition spaces within the hall will display many small creatures of this area. As most are secretive and often nocturnal, you will be amazed at the variety of life that shares the flower-covered hillsides with us.
Hundreds of local flower specimens will be displayed and named, and indigenous flower bunches and plants will be for sale. Within the marquee, meet local interest and craft groups who will have plenty of tempting goods for sale, in addition to the numerous food stalls.
Activities will keep the children entertained in the amphitheatre. And delicious teas and lunches will be available throughout the festival.
Entrance fees are R20. Children, under 12, or in school uniform, FREE.
Pensioners Day, Friday 25th, entrance R10.
